How to Use an Office Chair
Admin October 09, 2026
The proper use of an office chair requires combining basic adjustment functions with a healthy sitting posture. Here are the specific methods:

I. Basic Adjustment Function Operations
Seat Height Adjustment
- Adjust the seat so that your feet are flat on the ground, with your thighs and lower legs forming a 95ยฐ~100ยฐ angle. Avoid having your knees hanging in the air or being overly bent. If the chair is too high, you can use a footrest; if it is too low, it will increase pressure on your knee joints, potentially causing pain with long-term use.
- Adjustment method: Most chairs are adjusted by pressing the gas lift under the seat to raise or lower it. Some require rotating the gas lift to unlock it before adjustment.
Recline Angle Adjustment
- Lever Adjustment: Locate the lever under the seat, pull it up to release the lock, then slowly recline to a comfortable angle (recommended 100ยฐ~110ยฐ), and then lock the position.
- Knob Adjustment: Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the recline resistance (suitable for heavier individuals) and counterclockwise to decrease it (suitable for lighter individuals); some chairs require separate adjustment of the angle knob.
- Pneumatic Adjustment: High-end chairs (such as the Sihoo S300) are adjusted by pushing a pneumatic lever, providing smoother operation and are suitable for users who need to frequently switch sitting postures.
- Safety Tip: Ensure the chair's center of gravity is stable during adjustment to avoid excessive recline that could cause it to tip over.
Lumbar Support Adjustment
- High-end ergonomic chairs (such as the Hbada E3pro) support lumbar support height adjustment and forward-backward adaptive tracking. Lock the lumbar support control lever in the upper gear position to make the lumbar area fit snugly against the chair back, reducing lumbar pressure.
- If the lumbar support is not adjustable, you can temporarily add a cushion for additional support.
Armrest and Headrest Adjustment
- Armrest Height: Adjust the armrests so that your elbows hang naturally and your forearms are parallel to the desktop, avoiding shrugged shoulders or hanging arms.
- Headrest Adjustment: Move the headrest up or down to the middle of the back of your head, and adjust it forward or backward so that it fits snugly when your neck is slightly tilted back (such as the Sihoo S300 headrest, which is integrated with the chair back and supports multi-angle rotation).
II. Healthy Sitting Posture and Usage Habits
- Sitting Angle
- Lean your back slightly back at a 100ยฐ~110ยฐ angle, keep your waist snug against the chair back to avoid hanging in the air; sit as far back on the chair as possible to use the chair back to distribute pressure.
- Dynamic Adjustment
- Perform simple stretches (such as hip rotation, lower back relaxation) every 30 minutes or briefly stand up to work, relieving muscle tension.
- Monitor Height
- Elevate the monitor so that your line of sight is level with the top edge of the screen to avoid neck extension; use a stand or books to adjust the height.
III. Precautions
- The adjustment mechanisms of different chair models vary greatly (for example, basic models may only support height adjustment). Refer to the product manual before use.
- Avoid maintaining the same posture for long periods; regularly adjust the recline angle or switch sitting postures.
- Heavier individuals need to increase the recline resistance to prevent the chair from accidentally bouncing back; when children use it, lock the angle to prevent tipping.
