How to Store Office Chairs

Admin October 10, 2026

The storage methods for office chairs vary depending on their type, and corresponding operations should be selected based on their specific structures.

Storage of Foldable Office Chairs

The core design of foldable office chairs involves linkage mechanisms and rotating shafts, enabling structural changes through hinges and locking devices. Before storage, the locking state must be released, with common operations including:

  1. Folding the Backrest and Seat: On some models, the backrest can be folded forward to align with the seat. First, check the locking buckle beneath or on the side of the backrest, move it to the unlocked position, and then gently press down on the backrest.
  2. Retracting the Armrests: If the armrests are foldable, typically, you need to press the spring button on the inside of the armrest or rotate the fixing knob to retract them inward until they are parallel to the backrest.
  3. Overall Collapse: The chair legs often adopt an X-shaped frame or a bottom crossbeam structure. During storage, squeeze the chair legs on both sides towards the middle, utilizing the flexibility of the rotating shafts to fold the frame into a flat shape. Some models have slots at the bottom of the chair legs; after folding, insert the ends of the frame into the slots to secure the shape.

Storage of Office Chairs with Footrests

The storage of footrests requires first identifying their type and then performing targeted operations:

  1. Retractable Footrests: The control switches are commonly found beneath the side of the seat, at the bottom, or at the connection point of the footrest. Depending on the switch type, perform the following actions:
    • Pull-Up Type: Hold the front end of the footrest with your hand and pull it up to the locked position.
    • Push-In Type: Push the footrest towards the seat until it is fully retracted.
    • Step-On Unlock Type: Step on the unlock pedal at the bottom of the seat with your foot while manually pushing back the footrest.
  2. Handling Stuck Footrests: If the footrest cannot be retracted, first check if there are any foreign objects stuck at the connection point, clean it, and then try to reset it. If it still doesn't work, there may be a malfunction in the internal spring or locking mechanism. Avoid violent operations and contact after-sales service for repair.

Storage of Office Chairs for Sitting and Sleeping (Lunch Break Chairs)

The core of these chairs is the backrest angle adjustment mechanism, with storage methods including:

  1. Lever-Type Adjustment: Located on the side of the seat, when getting up, pull the lever, and the backrest will automatically return to the vertical position with the assistance of a gas spring. Confirm that you hear a "click" sound indicating it is locked.
  2. Knob Adjustment: Release the backrest by rotating the large knob at the bottom or on the side of the seat, adjust it to the vertical position, and then rotate the knob in the opposite direction to tighten it. This operation is more precise but slower.
  3. Stepless Adjustment Models: Some high-end models support automatic rebound after leaning back. When getting up, the backrest will slowly return to the vertical position. Wait until it is completely vertical before leaving. Precautions: After storage, check if the backrest is fully locked. Regularly tighten the screws of the adjustment mechanism and connection points. If the chair cannot be properly stored or locked, do not force the operation. Contact the manufacturer or a professional for inspection and repair.
