How to Sterilize Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

To sterilize office chairs, methods such as wiping disinfection, spray disinfection, ultraviolet disinfection, and high-temperature disinfection can be used, while adhering to the principle of 'clean first, then disinfect'.

  1. Wiping Disinfection:

    • Prepare Disinfectant: Choose a chlorine-based disinfectant, such as 84 disinfectant, and dilute it according to the product instructions, with a common concentration of 250mg/L - 500mg/L; or use 75% alcohol, but be cautious as alcohol is flammable and should be kept away from open flames.
    • Wiping Operation: Wear gloves and use a clean cloth dipped in the diluted disinfectant to carefully wipe all parts of the chair, including the seat, backrest, and armrests. For crevices and holes, use a cotton swab dipped in the disinfectant for cleaning. After wiping, allow the chair to air dry naturally.
  2. Spray Disinfection:

    • Choose Disinfectant: In addition to chlorine-based disinfectants, chlorine dioxide disinfectants can also be used.
    • Spray Steps: Fill a sprayer with the disinfectant and evenly spray it on the surface of the chair to ensure full coverage. After spraying, wait for a period of time to allow the disinfectant to take full effect, then use a clean cloth to wipe off any excess liquid.
  3. Ultraviolet Disinfection:

    • Applicable Situations: If the chair material is suitable for ultraviolet exposure, an ultraviolet lamp can be used for disinfection.
    • Operation Points: During periods when the chair is not in use, turn on the ultraviolet lamp for irradiation. The effective distance of the ultraviolet lamp is about 1 meter, and the irradiation time should be more than 30 minutes. However, be aware that ultraviolet light can harm the eyes and skin, so ensure the room is unoccupied during disinfection and close the doors and windows.
  4. High-Temperature Disinfection:

    • When Conditions Allow: For heat-resistant chairs, high-temperature disinfection can be used.
    • Operation Methods: Place the chair in the sun for several hours or use a steam cleaner for steam disinfection.
  5. Adhere to the Principle of 'Clean First, Then Disinfect':

    • Remove Residue: Use utensils or tools to remove visible food residue and garbage from the chair.
    • Clean the Surface: Use a wet cloth with a cleaning agent to wipe the seat and edges of the chair, removing oil stains and dirt.
    • Disinfect: Spray or wipe with a disinfectant solution containing 250mg/L of available chlorine or 75% alcohol, allowing it to act for 5 - 10 minutes.
    • Wipe with Clean Water: Use a clean wet cloth to remove any residual disinfectant.
    • Air Dry: Ensure the chair is completely dry before use.
