How to Replace an Office Chair
Admin October 11, 2026
Replacing an office chair mainly involves two steps: disassembling the old chair and installing the new one. Here are the specific operation methods:

Disassembling the Old Office Chair
If not necessary, it is not recommended to disassemble the old office chair, as the gas rod and chair legs may be tightly fastened after long-term use, making disassembly difficult and posing certain safety risks. If disassembly is necessary, follow these steps:
- Loosen the screws: Loosen the screws in the reverse order of installation. Generally, start with the easily detachable parts such as armrests and headrests, and gradually loosen the screws on other parts.
- Separate the seat and gas rod: This is a relatively difficult part to disassemble. First, separate the backrest, then raise the gas rod to its highest position. Hold the seat cushion with one hand and press the lift lever with the other hand, shaking it several times to loosen the connection between the seat and the gas rod, and then remove the seat.
- Separate the gas rod and chair legs: Invert the chair legs and preferably use a rubber mallet to knock out the gas rod. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can use a piece of wood as a cushion and then use another suitable tool to knock, separating the gas rod from the chair legs.
Installing the New Office Chair
When installing the new office chair, generally follow the bottom-up order. The specific steps are as follows:
- Understand the components: An office chair usually consists of chair legs, casters, a base, a seat, a gas rod, a backrest, armrests, a headrest, etc. Before installation, familiarize yourself with the names and functions of each component for correct installation.
- Install the casters and chair legs: First, install the casters onto the chair legs one by one, ensuring that each caster is firmly installed. After installing the chair legs, vertically place the gas rod in the center of the chair legs. Another method is to first assemble the five wheels and then insert the gas rod.
- Secure the base and seat: Fix the base to the seat with screws, making sure to tighten the screws to ensure a firm connection between the base and the seat.
- Connect the backrest and seat: After the seat is installed, connect the backrest and the seat, ensuring a firm connection as well.
- Install the base plate: Vertically insert the base plate onto the gas rod, ensuring a tight fit between the base plate and the gas rod.
- Install the armrests and headrest: Finally, install the armrests and headrest, adjusting them to the appropriate positions.
