How to Repair Office Chairs
Office chair repair requires targeted measures based on the specific type of fault. Here are common faults and repair methods:

I. Lifting Faults or Sideways Tilt If the chair cannot be raised or lowered or tilts sideways, disassemble and inspect components such as the gas lift and base. First, invert the chair and place it on the ground. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws from the bottom tray, separate the seat cushion, and then gradually disassemble the base, gas lift, and chair legs. When disassembling the base, hold it upside down with one hand and tap the edge of the base with a rubber mallet (if a rubber mallet is not available, use an iron hammer with a towel to prevent paint scratches). For gas lift faults, invert the chair and tap the bottom of the gas lift with a hammer from the side (avoid the middle button). Prioritize replacing the gas lift with SGS or TUV certification.
II. Tilt to One Side
- Check the Wheels: Place the chair upright or upside down to observe whether the wheel feet are in contact with the ground. If the wheels are damaged, they need to be replaced. When purchasing matching wheels, contact the manufacturer for the model number or take the old wheels to an office supplies store to compare the shape and size of the wheel axles. Removing Old Wheels: Hold the wheel with one hand and the chair base with the other hand and pull firmly. If it is stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the wheel foot and the chair base to pry it open. For a very small number of screw-fixed models, use a screwdriver to remove them. Installing New Wheels: Apply WD-40 lubricant or Vaseline to the socket on the chair base, tap the wheel in with a rubber mallet, and finally invert the chair to test its stability.
- Check the Seat Plate: If the wheels are normal and the ground is level, place the chair on its side and check whether the metal seat plate (the black steel plate at the bottom of the seat that connects to the column) is deformed or broken. Replace the seat plate if necessary.
III. Leather Damage For minor wear on the back of a leather executive chair, first clean the damaged area with a multi-purpose cleaner to remove stains and burrs. After it dries, choose a repair method based on the degree of damage: use leather repair paste to fill in small areas of wear, and for large areas of damage, it is recommended to contact a professional for repair or replace the leather.
IV. Fracture of Rosewood Office Chairs Repair a fractured rosewood chair step by step: First, use wood glue to bond the fractured parts. After the glue is completely dry, drill holes (drill small holes first and then enlarge them) to ensure that the nails are fully embedded in the wood. Use 502 glue mixed with sawdust to fill the cracks. After it solidifies, sand it until the surface is smooth. Finally, spray paint of the same color as the original chair. Spray it twice repeatedly to ensure uniformity.
Precautions: Wear gloves during repairs to avoid scratches. If structural safety is involved (such as gas lifts and rosewood connections), it is recommended to replace the components rather than simply repair them. For complex faults, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel.
