How to Repair Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The repair method for office chairs should be selected based on the specific type of fault. Here are solutions to common problems:

I. Minor Wear Repair for Leather Executive Chairs If the leather surface shows minor wear or scratches, prioritize using a multi-functional cleaner for cleaning and repair. Note the following during operation:

  1. Spray the cleaner onto a clean, soft cloth and avoid direct contact with the leather surface;
  2. Gently wipe the damaged area in a circular motion to remove stains and smooth out fine scratches;
  3. After natural drying, apply a small amount of leather care oil to enhance protection. This method is suitable for non-structural damage. If the worn area shows cracks or peeling, contact professional leather repair services.

II. Sideways Tilt or Inability to Adjust Height in Lift Chairs Such faults are usually related to the gas lift, base, or wheel assembly and require step-by-step disassembly for repair:

  1. Disassembly Preparation: Invert the chair and use a rubber mallet (or a regular hammer with a towel) to gently tap the screws on the bottom tray to separate the seat cushion from the base;
  2. Component Inspection:
    • If the gas lift fails (e.g., inability to adjust height or air leakage), tap the bottom of the gas lift with the side of a hammer (avoid the middle button) and replace it with a new one certified by SGS/TUV;
    • If the base is deformed causing sideways tilt, disassemble the base and replace damaged components. During disassembly, hold the chair upside down with one hand and use a rubber mallet to strike specific positions on the base to assist separation;
  3. Wheel Assembly Handling: Pull out damaged wheels forcefully. If stuck, use pliers for assistance. Ensure new wheels match the chair leg model during installation.

III. Office Chair Tilted to One Side Tilt issues are often caused by poor contact between the wheel assembly and the base and require systematic troubleshooting:

  1. Wheel Assembly Inspection:
    • Invert the chair and observe whether the wheel feet make even contact with the ground. If a wheel on one side is suspended, check if the wheel foot is damaged;
    • To remove old wheels, pull them out directly or use a flat-head screwdriver for assistance. For a few fixed screws, use a screwdriver to loosen them;
  2. Lubrication Treatment: Apply WD-40 spray lubricant or petroleum jelly inside the base socket to reduce friction;
  3. New Wheel Installation: Use a rubber mallet to tap the new wheel into the socket and ensure it is securely installed;
  4. Seat Plate Inspection: If the chair still tilts after replacing the wheel assembly, check if the seat plate is deformed and replace the entire seat plate assembly if necessary.

Repair Precautions:

  • Wear protective gloves before operation to avoid scratches from metal components;
  • Keep your face away when disassembling the gas lift to prevent the internal high-pressure gas from spraying out;
  • Prioritize original factory parts or safety-certified alternatives to ensure structural stability.
