How to Repair an L-Shaped Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

Repairing an L-shaped office chair requires targeted measures based on the specific damaged part. Here are solutions to common problems:

1. Damaged or tilted wheels
If the wheels tilt due to uneven ground, adjust the chair's position to a flat surface. If the wheels are bent, broken, or do not rotate smoothly, replace the entire set of matching wheels (individual replacement is difficult). Contact the manufacturer for the model number to order, or take the old wheels to an office supplies store for matching. When replacing, use a screwdriver to loosen the fixing screws (if any) and pull out the old wheels; apply lubricant (such as WD-40) to the chair socket and gently tap the new wheel rod with a rubber mallet until fully inserted, ensuring a tight fit.

2. Hydraulic system failure (backrest cannot stand upright)
If the backrest cannot be adjusted or stands upright, the hydraulic rod may be damaged. Lay the chair on its side, inspect the transmission components, replace non-standard screws (such as 10*1 model) with standard ones, and add nuts and washers to prevent loosening. If the hydraulic system completely fails (such as inability to lift or insufficient support), it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician to replace the hydraulic rod, avoiding further damage from disassembly.

3. Damaged seat

  • Minor wear: For leather seats, apply leather repair agent multiple times to restore surface texture; for fabric seats, use fabric repair agent to fill in wear spots.
  • Major damage: For leather seats, cut and paste leather of a similar color and reinforce the edges with stitching; for fabric seats, patch with the same fabric to ensure a flat interface. If the seat sags, it may be due to aging of the internal filling, requiring the seat to be opened and the foam or sponge replaced.

4. Loose screws or detached parts
Tighten all loose screws (such as those at the armrest and backrest connections) using a wrench or screwdriver. If parts are detached (such as the hydraulic mechanism), check the fixing screw specifications, replace with the appropriate model (such as M6 or M8 screws), and add washers for increased stability. Regularly checking screw tightness can prevent such issues.

5. Backrest adjustment failure
Check if the connection between the adjustment button/handle and the internal mechanism is loose, and refasten screws or clips. If the internal gears or springs are damaged, replace the adjustment device (contact the manufacturer for parts). Avoid forcibly pulling the adjustment parts to prevent further damage.

Precautions:

  • If the chair is old or severely damaged (such as a broken frame or hydraulic system leakage), it is recommended to contact a professional repair company or replace it with a new chair to ensure safety.
  • Regular maintenance can extend its lifespan: regularly clean the seat and wheels, avoid direct sunlight to prevent leather aging or fabric fading, and keep away from damp environments to prevent metal parts from rusting.
