How to Recline an Office Chair
To recline an office chair, follow the steps for unlocking, adjusting, locking, and restoring functions. Some models support 160-degree infinite adjustment and footrest linkage.

Unlock the Recline Function The recline unlocking mechanism on most office chairs is located beneath the right armrest or on the right side of the seat cushion. There are two common operating methods:
- Handle Type: Locate the elongated handle on the right side of the chair and gently pull it backward. After hearing a 'click' sound, the backrest will enter a free-moving state and can be adjusted according to your body's recline angle.
- Button Type: Some chairs have a circular button on the outer side of the armrest or the edge of the seat cushion. Pull the button outward to unlock the backrest, and then manually adjust the recline amplitude.
Adjust the Recline Tension If the support feels too strong or too weak when reclining, adjust it using the cylindrical knob on the base:
- Increase Support: Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the backrest's rebound force, suitable for users with a heavier weight or those needing stronger support.
- Decrease Support: Rotate the knob counterclockwise to decrease the backrest's rebound force, making reclining easier and suitable for users with a lighter weight or those seeking comfort.
Lock the Recline Angle After adjusting to the desired angle, lock the backrest to fix the position:
- Lever Lock: A long lever is usually located on the right side of the seat cushion. Pull it out to allow the backrest to recline freely. Once you find the target angle, gently push the lever back into place to lock it.
- Button Lock: On some chairs, after adjusting the angle, push the outer button inward. A 'click' sound indicates successful locking.
Activate the 160-Degree Recline Mode (Some Models) High-end office chairs support infinite adjustment from 95 to 160 degrees and come with an extendable footrest:
- Angle Adjustment: After unlocking the recline function as described above, continue to apply backward force, and the backrest will gradually flatten to 160 degrees.
- Footrest Linkage: In the reclined position, pull out the footrest in front of the seat cushion to support your legs, creating a near-lying position suitable for short breaks.
Restore to Upright Position After use, return the chair to its original position:
- Unlock the Locking Mechanism: Pull out the lever on the right side of the seat cushion outward and gently push the backrest with your back to slowly raise it to the upright position.
- Lock the Upright Position: Push the lever back into place to ensure the backrest is fixed and prevent accidental reclining during use.
Precautions: Before operating, confirm that the chair supports the recline function to avoid damaging the mechanical structure by applying excessive force. Maintain balance while adjusting to prevent falls.
