How to Raise the Height of an Office Chair
There are several ways to raise the height of an office chair, and you can choose the appropriate method based on the type of chair:

1. Raising a Pneumatic Office Chair This type of chair adjusts its height through a pneumatic rod. The operation steps are as follows:
- Locate the adjustment lever: There is usually a single- or double-rod height adjustment lever under the seat. For some chairs, the lever is located on the right side of the seat.
- Adjust the height: You need to get off the chair or slightly lift your body off the seat surface. Pull the lever upward while gently lifting the seat cushion with both hands. Use the elasticity of the pneumatic rod to raise the seat. The lever will automatically lock the height when you release it. If you are relatively light in weight, you can stand and directly pull the seat cushion upward with your hands while pulling the lever to assist in raising it.
- Precautions: Keep your body balanced during adjustment to avoid the chair tipping over due to excessive force. If the pneumatic rod fails, check whether it is leaking air or damaged. Replace the rod if necessary.
2. Raising a Screw-Type Office Chair This method is suitable for old-fashioned mechanical adjustment chairs or some fixed-height models that require manual knob adjustment. The operation steps are as follows:
- Locate the knob: There is usually a rotatable knob at the bottom of the pneumatic rod or support rod. Some knobs may require tools (such as a wrench) for assistance.
- Rotate counterclockwise: Following the principle of screws, rotating the knob counterclockwise will gradually raise the seat. After adjusting to the appropriate height, rotate the knob clockwise to tighten and fix it.
- Precautions: Keep the force even when rotating to avoid damaging the knob due to excessive force. If the knob gets stuck, apply a small amount of lubricating oil to assist in adjustment.
3. Raising the Height with Auxiliary Tools (for non-adjustable chairs) If the chair has no adjustment function, you can increase its height in the following ways:
- Install height-increasing foot pads: Choose metal or plastic foot pads with anti-slip designs and place them directly under the chair legs. This can increase the height by 5 - 15 cm. Make sure the foot pads match the size of the chair legs to avoid slipping or tilting.
- Replace with a longer pneumatic rod: If the original pneumatic rod is damaged or has insufficient travel, you can purchase a longer pneumatic rod of the same model. Make sure the diameter and length of the new rod are the same as those of the original one. Remove the base and replace the rod. Use tools during the operation and pay attention to safety to avoid injury caused by the suddenๅผนๅบ (should be 'ejection') of the rod.
Check the comfort level after adjustment: After raising the height, make sure your feet are flat on the ground, your knees are bent at a 90ยฐ angle, and your elbows are level with the tabletop to reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting. If the adjustment still does not conform to ergonomics, it is recommended to replace the office chair that meets your needs.
