How to Move Office Chairs

Admin October 19, 2026

When moving office chairs, it is necessary to make proper packing preparations, pay attention to details during the moving process, and arrange transportation reasonably.

Packing Preparations

  • Clean the chair: First, wipe the chair clean with a cloth, including the armrests, backrest, and other parts, to avoid bringing in dust during the move and prevent the dust from causing slippage during packing.
  • Handle components: For detachable office chairs, carefully study the instructions to clarify the disassembly method before disassembling them. Wrap the components with stretch wrap to prevent scratches during the move. For non-detachable office chairs, wrap them tightly with stretch wrap first.
  • Pack with bubble wrap: Use bubble wrap for packing. Wrap it horizontally twice and then vertically to ensure that the wrap completely covers the chair and buffers the pressure during moving and transportation.
  • Make outer packaging: If the original packaging is intact, directly place the packed chair into the original cardboard box. If the original packaging is lost, it is recommended to cut hard cardboard to make outer packaging and use hard corner protectors to protect the edges and corners. For more valuable office chairs, a frame-style wooden box can be made according to the size of the chair. Fill the inside of the wooden box with foam or old clothes to reduce the gaps between the chair and the walls of the wooden box or cardboard box.

Moving Process

  • Label for reminder: Stick labels on the packaging indicating "Fragile" or "Valuable" to remind the movers to handle it gently.
  • Apply force reasonably during moving: If your own chair is heavy, it is recommended that two people move it. Pay attention to applying force evenly during the move to prevent tipping over. Do not use the armrests as the point of force because they are relatively fragile and often cannot withstand the weight of the entire chair. It is recommended to lift the seat surface.
  • Plan the route in advance: For moving large office chairs, it is best to measure the length, width, and height of the chair before moving to determine whether the elevator and stairs can accommodate it and plan the moving route in advance.
  • Handle special chairs: Ordinary office chairs can be moved directly. If it is an office chair with wheels and armrests, it is best to remove the wheels and armrests. For office chairs with glass or mirror decorations, first wrap the glass part with bubble wrap and then fix it with tape. For leather or fabric office chairs, it is recommended to wrap the entire chair with a dust cover or an old bedsheet to avoid scratches or stains during transportation.

Transportation Arrangement

Choose an appropriate transportation method according to the transportation distance and the characteristics of the chair. When transporting in a vehicle, load the chair last and unload it first. It is best to fix it with ropes to prevent it from shifting during driving.
