How to Move Office Chairs
Admin October 11, 2026
The following methods can be referred to for moving office chairs. Operating step by step can ensure safety and efficiency:

I. Preparation Before Moving
Cleaning
Use a dry cloth to thoroughly wipe the surface of the office chair, including the armrests, backrest, and chair wheels, to prevent dust from causing slippage or contaminating the new environment during the move. If there are stubborn stains on the seat, use a neutral cleaner for local treatment and then dry it.Disassembly and Protection
- Removable Parts: Disassemble parts such as armrests, headrests, and gas cylinders according to the instructions. Wrap each part separately with stretch film to prevent scratches or loss. Put small accessories like screws into sealed bags, label their uses, and attach them to a conspicuous place on the outer packaging.
- Non-removable Parts: Wrap the entire chair body with stretch film from the bottom up in a spiral manner, focusing on reinforcing easily bumped areas such as the chair wheels and armrests.
II. Packing Process
- Cushioning Protection
- Bubble Wrap Packing: Wrap horizontally twice and then cross-wrap vertically to ensure that flat areas such as the seat and backrest are fully covered, forming a cushioning layer.
- Outer Packaging Selection: Give priority to using the original factory packaging box. If there is no original packaging, cut cardboard according to the size of the chair to make an outer box and install hard corner protectors at the edges. For precious materials such as rosewood and solid wood, a custom wooden box is required, filled with foam or old clothes inside to reduce shaking space.
- Special Type Handling
- Ergonomic Chairs: After removing the armrests and headrests, wrap the chair body separately with bubble wrap. The original factory packaging box is the first choice. If not available, purchase a dedicated moving box. When sealing the box, use the "three horizontal and two vertical + cross-bottom" tape reinforcement method.
- High-end Mesh Chairs: Cover the seat with a layer of washing machine dust cover to prevent the mesh from being hooked by sharp objects during the move.
III. Moving Process
Label Warnings
Stick labels such as "Fragile", "Valuable", and "This Side Up" on conspicuous places of the outer packaging to remind movers to handle with care and avoid inversion or squeezing.Teamwork and Force Application
- Heavy Chairs: It is recommended that two people move them. One person supports the bottom of the seat, and the other supports the backrest to keep the force even and prevent tipping.
- Prohibited Force Points: Avoid using the armrests or chair wheels as support points, as these parts are prone to breakage or deformation.
- Route Planning
Measure the height and width of the chair in advance to confirm whether it can pass through the elevator or stairway. If disassembly is required for the move, give priority to elevator transportation to reduce the risk of moving via stairs.
IV. Other Precautions
- Inter-city Transportation: Choose a direct dedicated vehicle service to avoid violent handling caused by transfer and sorting.
- Bad Weather: Wrap the outer packaging with plastic wrap for waterproofing or cover it with a waterproof tarp in rainy or snowy weather.
- Post-move Inspection: Before assembly, check the completeness of the parts, focusing on whether easily damaged parts such as the gas cylinder and chair wheels are loose or damaged.
