How to Move Office Chairs
Admin October 10, 2026
When moving office chairs, choose the appropriate method based on the distance, chair type, and weight, and make proper plans for packing, moving, and transportation.

I. Packing Preparation
- Cleaning and Disassembly: Wipe all parts of the chair with a cloth, including the armrests and backrest. If the chair is disassemblable, carefully follow the instructions for disassembly. After disassembly, wrap the components with stretch wrap to prevent scratches during moving. For non-disassemblable chairs, wrap them tightly with stretch wrap directly.
- Bubble Wrap Reinforcement: Wrap the chair horizontally with two layers of bubble wrap and then vertically with at least three to five layers. Ensure that special parts such as chair legs are properly wrapped to reduce collision damage during moving.
II. Selection of Moving Methods
- Single-Person Short-Distance Moving: If the chair has wheels, it is recommended to remove the wheels and armrests before moving to prevent the wheels from rolling and causing loss of control. Non-wheeled chairs can be moved directly, but pay attention to even force distribution.
- Long-Distance Moving:
- Utilization of Original Packaging: If the original packaging is intact, place the packed chair in the original cardboard box. If the original packaging is lost, cut hard cardboard to make an outer packaging and protect the edges with hard corner protectors.
- Handling of Valuable Chairs: Valuable chairs such as rosewood and solid wood chairs require the construction of a frame-style wooden box, with foam or clothing filled inside to reduce gaps. For completely disassembled chairs, wrap each component separately, place the screws in a sealed bag and attach it to the main body, fill the gaps in the cardboard box with foam blocks, and mark it with "Fragile" and "This Side Up" signs.
III. Selection of Transportation Services
- Lightweight Chairs: Priority should be given to courier services, with a cost of approximately 30-50 yuan.
- Heavy Chairs: Solid wood chairs or massage chairs are suitable for logistics companies, which charge based on volume and weight, approximately 100-200 yuan. Confirm in advance whether the service includes upstairs delivery.
- Same-City Transportation: Use platforms like Huolala, with a starting price of approximately 30-50 yuan for small trucks, suitable for short-distance large-item moving.
IV. Moving Precautions
- Teamwork: For heavier chairs, it is recommended that two people move them together to maintain even force distribution and prevent tipping.
- Selection of Force Points: Avoid using the armrests as force points as they are relatively fragile. It is recommended to lift the chair by the seat.
- Route Planning: Before moving, measure the dimensions of the chair to confirm whether it can fit in elevators and staircases, and plan the route accordingly.
- Transportation Protection: Keep the chair above the steps when going up and down stairs. When transporting in a vehicle, load it last and unload it first, and secure it with ropes to prevent shifting.
- Insurance for Valuable Items: For antique chairs or designer chairs, it is recommended to purchase transportation insurance and choose a professional art logistics company.
