How to Lower an Office Chair

Admin October 14, 2026

The operation of 'lowering' an office chair needs to be adjusted according to specific functional modules, mainly involving the adjustment of the backrest, seat height, and small table (if applicable). The specific methods are as follows:

1. Adjust the Backrest Angle

The 'lowering' of the backrest usually refers to adjusting the inclination angle of the backrest. The operation method varies depending on the adjustment mechanism:

  1. Button-type Adjustment: If there are buttons on the armrests of the seat, usually one button controls the forward and backward movement of the seat cushion, and the other controls the backrest angle. Locate the backrest adjustment button, press it, and then lean back against the backrest. The backrest will adjust to a comfortable angle with the pressure. Release the button or hear a 'click' sound to lock it in place.
  2. Knob-type Adjustment: Some chairs have a locking knob to control the backrest. Rotate the knob to the unlocked position, manually adjust the backrest angle, and then rotate the knob in the opposite direction to tighten it when it is in the desired position.
  3. Manual Adjustment Lever/Knob: There may be an adjustment lever or knob on the right (or left) side of the bottom of the seat. To operate, you need to 'pull it out', 'press down and turn', or 'rotate' to unlock it. Lean back to adjust the angle, and after adjustment, push the adjustment lever back into place or hear a locking sound.
  4. Electric Adjustment: Electric office chairs have an integrated control panel on the side of the seat. Locate the button marked with the backrest inclination icon, press or toggle it, and the backrest will automatically and slowly recline. Release the button to stop.

2. Lower the Seat Height

The 'lowering' of the seat height is achieved through a gas lift or a knob:

  1. Gas Lift Adjustment: Most modern office chairs are equipped with a gas lift. Locate the handle under the seat, lift the handle upwards while pressing down on the seat at the same time, and lower the height to the desired position before releasing the handle.
  2. Knob-type Adjustment: Some chairs adjust the height by rotating the knob under the seat. Rotate it clockwise to lower the seat and counterclockwise to raise it.
  3. Inflatable Adjustment: If the chair uses an inflatable gas lift, locate the knob on the gas lift and rotate it clockwise to lower the seat height.

3. Lower the Small Table (if applicable)

If the office chair is equipped with a small table, the operation steps are as follows:

  1. Open the Lid: Locate the lid on the right side or the front armrest of the seat and manually lift it up.
  2. Unfold the Table: After opening the lid, you will see a small table made of metal or plastic. Pull it out upwards and rotate the buckle to fix it, ensuring the table is stable.

Precautions: Before adjustment, confirm the type of chair and the adjustment mechanism to avoid damage caused by forced operation. For electric chairs, check the power connection. After adjustment, test whether the locking function is stable.
