How to Lock Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The method for locking office chairs depends on specific needs and the type of chair. Here are common scenarios and operations:

1. Locking the Backrest Recline of Computer Chairs If you need to fix the backrest angle, operate according to the chair's adjustment mechanism:

  • Knob-type chairs: Locate the circular knob at the bottom or side of the chair. Turning it clockwise increases the backrest resistance. Keep turning until the resistance is sufficient, and the backrest will be locked. Turning it counterclockwise restores the recline function.
  • Lever-type chairs: Look for the lever on the side or bottom of the chair. Move it to the position marked 'LOCK' or 'Lock' to fix the backrest angle. Move it back to the original position to unlock.
  • Button-type chairs: Some chairs are equipped with an independent button. Pressing it locks the backrest recline angle. Pressing it again or gently pushing the backrest releases the lock.

2. Solving the Problem of Wheel Slippage If you need to restrict the chair's movement, enhance stability through the following methods:

  • Fixed-foot design: Replace the wheels with fixed chair feet, sacrificing mobility for stable support, suitable for fixed workstations.
  • Brake-equipped wheels: Choose wheels that can be manually locked. By stepping on or moving the brake device on the wheels, you can switch between 'locked' and 'sliding' modes.
  • Gravity self-locking wheels: These wheels use a sit-to-unlock design. When a person sits down, the wheels automatically lock. When they stand up, the wheels resume sliding, providing both safety and convenience.
  • Increasing friction: Lay a rough carpet or anti-slip mat under the chair to reduce slippage by increasing the friction of the contact surface. However, note that the thickness of the carpet may affect wheel rotation.

3. Physical Locking to Prevent Unauthorized Use If you need to restrict the use of the chair, use dedicated locks:

  • Chain locks: Wrap the chain around load-bearing parts such as the chair legs or armrest bases, and secure it with a lock core. It requires a key to unlock and is suitable for long-term fixed scenarios.
  • Combination padlocks: These do not require a key. Unlock by entering a preset digital code. Attach the lock shackle to the gaps between the chair legs or the chair frame. They are easy to operate and the code can be changed frequently.
  • Flexible cable locks: These highly flexible cable locks can wrap around chairs with irregular shapes. They can fix the chair legs and also bind the chair to nearby fixed furniture, increasing the difficulty of removal.

Before operating, confirm the type of chair and the compatibility of the lock to avoid damage caused by forced operation. If the chair has functional abnormalities, it is recommended to contact after-sales service or a professional repair technician.
