How to Lock an Office Chair

Admin October 12, 2026

The method for locking an office chair should be selected based on specific needs and the type of chair, mainly falling into two categories: preventing others from using it and locking the backrest from reclining. The specific operations are as follows:

If you need to prevent others from using the office chair, you can physically lock it with a dedicated lock. Common locks and their operation methods are as follows: Chain Lock: Composed of a high-strength chain and a lock core, when using it, you need to wrap the chain around load-bearing and non-removable parts of the office chair, such as the chair legs and armrest bases, and then fasten the lock core. This type of lock is suitable for chairs with a sturdy structure and large component spacing, effectively restricting the movement or use of the chair. Combination Padlock: No key is required; it completes unlocking and locking through a preset digital password. When operating, simply clip the lock onto the gap between the chair legs or the frame of the chair. This type of lock is suitable for scenarios that require frequent opening and closing and need to avoid losing keys, but the password complexity should be ensured to prevent it from being cracked. Flexible Cable Lock: The main body is a metal cable with a covering layer, which is highly flexible and can easily wrap around irregularly shaped office chairs. There are two locking methods: one is to fix the chair legs, and the other is to bind the chair to nearby fixed furniture (such as the legs of an office desk) to form a double restriction. This type of lock is suitable for environments with limited space or complex chair structures.

If you need to lock the backrest of a computer chair from reclining, you should choose the operation method according to the chair's adjustment mechanism: Knob Type: There is usually a circular knob under the chair. By rotating it clockwise, you can increase the resistance of the backrest until it can no longer recline, thus completing the locking. This mechanism is common in traditional office chairs. When operating, pay attention to the rotation force to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force. Lever Type: There is a lever on the side or under the chair. Simply move it to the โ€œLockโ€ mark to fix the backrest. Some chairs may be marked with the words โ€œFreeโ€ and โ€œLockโ€, and you need to choose the corresponding position according to your needs. This mechanism is easy to operate, but you need to confirm that the lever is in the correct position. Button Type: Some computer chairs are equipped with a dedicated button. Pressing it can lock the backrest's recline angle. For cable-controlled chairs, first adjust to the target angle, then press the button and lean back slightly. When you hear a โ€œclickโ€ sound, it means the locking is successful. This mechanism is common in high-end ergonomic chairs. When operating, keep your body balanced to avoid losing balance due to sudden locking.
