How to Lock an Office Chair

Admin October 16, 2026

To make the backrest of an office chair recline and lock in place, you need to choose the corresponding operation method based on the type of chair. If you want to lock the office chair to prevent others from using it, you can use a dedicated lock for physical locking.

Methods for Locking the Backrest of an Office Chair in a Reclined Position

  • Lever Locking: First, locate the lever, which is usually located on the side or front underneath the chair, with variations in position depending on the model. Lean back against the backrest and gently apply pressure to recline it to the desired angle. Some chairs have a second-gear function on the lever. By operating the lever or knob, you can lock the backrest in its current position.
  • Knob Locking: For knob-type office chairs, there is generally a circular knob underneath the chair. By rotating this knob clockwise, you can increase the resistance of the backrest. Continue rotating until the backrest is locked and can no longer recline further.
  • Toggle Locking: On toggle-type office chairs, the toggle is usually placed on the side or underneath the chair. Move the toggle to a specific position, such as where it is marked with a "lock" symbol, to secure the backrest and keep it stable.
  • Button Locking: Some office chairs are equipped with a dedicated button. Pressing this button allows you to lock the recline angle of the backrest, keeping it at the desired angle.

Methods for Locking an Office Chair to Prevent Others from Using It

  • Chain Lock: A chain lock consists of a high-strength chain and a lock core. When using it, wrap the chain around load-bearing and non-removable parts of the office chair, such as the chair legs or armrest bases, and then fasten the lock core. This method effectively restricts the movement and use of the office chair.
  • Combination Padlock: A combination padlock does not rely on a key. It completes the locking and unlocking operations through a preset numerical code. Simply clip the lock onto the space between the chair legs or the gaps in the chair frame to lock the office chair, which is convenient and secure.
  • Flexible Cable Lock: The main body of a flexible cable lock is a metal cable with a covering layer, which is highly flexible. It can easily wrap around irregularly shaped office chairs, securing not only the chair legs but also binding the chair to nearby fixed furniture, such as the legs of an office desk, to prevent the office chair from being moved or used arbitrarily.
