How to Lift Office Chairs
Admin October 12, 2026
The method for lifting office chairs depends on the specific model and structure, with common operations as follows:

I. Height-Adjustable Office Chairs
Method 1: Using the Bottom Crossed Ropes
- This applies to some pneumatic office chairs with adjustable height. First, observe the bottom of the chair and locate the two crossed support ropes (usually used for moving or stabilizing the chair). Place one foot lightly on the seat to fix the position, and hold the armrests or the middle of the backrest (or the upper crossbeam) with both hands to keep the chair balanced.
- Concentrate your strength to pull up the bottom ropes. Usually, a slight force is enough to raise the chair's height. After lifting, ensure the center of gravity is stable to avoid slipping or tilting. This method requires attention to the load-bearing capacity of the ropes to avoid damage from excessive force.
Method 2: Operating the Lever or Bolt
- Pneumatic Office Chairs: Locate the pneumatic rod (usually cylindrical) directly below the seat. Stand in front of the chair, press the adjustment button on the pneumatic rod (up or down) with one hand, and gently lift the seat to the desired height with the other hand.
- Non-Pneumatic Office Chairs: If the chair adjusts its height via a bolt, first loosen the bolt below the seat (which may require tools), manually pull the seat up or down to the appropriate position, and then retighten the bolt to secure it. Ensure the bolt is fully tightened during operation to prevent the seat from sliding.
II. Moving Office Chairs
- When moving, it is recommended to hold the back legs of the chair rather than the armrests or backrest. Lift the back legs off the ground to a position far from your hands, using the principle of leverage to reduce effort while keeping the chair balanced. This method can prevent the chair from tipping over or scratching the floor due to a shifted center of gravity.
- If the chair has wheels, first lock the wheels (if they have a locking function) or tilt the chair to lift the wheels off the ground before moving. Pay attention to avoiding obstacles during the move to prevent collisions that could damage the chair's structure.
Precautions:
- Before operation, check that all parts of the chair are intact to avoid accidents caused by looseness or damage.
- Avoid sudden force when adjusting the height to prevent the pneumatic rod from failing or the bolt from slipping.
- When moving heavy office chairs, it is recommended to have two people collaborate to ensure safety.
