How to Judge a Good Office Chair

Admin October 16, 2026

A good office chair should meet core criteria such as a reasonable support structure, comprehensive adjustment functions, high comfort, strong durability, breathable materials, and guaranteed safety and quality.

Support Structure: Lumbar support is crucial. A backrest that fits the curve of the back can reduce spinal pressure and prevent fatigue from prolonged sitting. The seat cushion needs to provide sufficient support. Some ergonomic chairs use pressure-distribution designs to disperse pressure across the backrest, lumbar support, and seat cushion, enhancing comfort during long periods of sitting.

Adjustment Functions: Height adjustment should accommodate different heights. The standard height of an office chair is 40-50 centimeters, and mainstream pneumatic rods can adjust by 6-10 centimeters. For example, individuals who are 160 centimeters tall are advised to set the height to 42-43 centimeters, those who are 165 centimeters tall to 43-45 centimeters, and those who are 170 centimeters tall to 45-47 centimeters. This ensures that when seated, both feet are flat on the ground, the thighs are perpendicular to the calves, the desktop is level with the elbows, and the height difference between the desk and chair is controlled within 28-32 centimeters. Additionally, adjustments to the headrest, armrests, and seat depth are equally important. The headrest should support the cervical spine, armrests at a height of 20-25 centimeters can keep the shoulders relaxed, and a seat depth of 38-42 centimeters can prevent the thighs from hanging or the knees from being compressed. The wider the adjustment range, the easier it is to find a suitable sitting position.

Comfort: A seat height of 40-45 centimeters ensures that the knees are at a 90-degree angle, reducing pressure on the legs. The backrest height should reach 40 centimeters to provide stable support for the lower back. The seat cushion design should balance softness and support to prevent the body from sinking or the legs from being compressed.

Durability: After long-term use, the chair should maintain structural stability and avoid looseness or abnormal noises, which depend on the reliability of the frame material and assembly process.

Materials: Breathable mesh fabric is the preferred choice as it reduces the feeling of stuffiness. Leather, while appearing high-end, can cause sweating in summer, so the choice should be based on the usage environment.

Safety and Quality: Focus should be placed on the materials of the pneumatic rod, chassis, chair legs, and frame. The pneumatic rod should pass 5GS certification to ensure safe lifting and lowering. The chassis should be stable, and it is recommended to choose a five-star base for the chair legs to enhance stability. The frame material should be resistant to deformation to prevent structural looseness after long-term use.
