How to Install, Replace, and Maintain Office Chair Feet Nails
Admin October 11, 2026
The installation, replacement, and maintenance of office chair feet nails should be carried out according to the type of nail and the material of the chair. The specific steps are as follows:

I. General Installation and Replacement Steps
Preparation
- Tools: Cross-head screwdriver (or electric screwdriver), rubber mallet, lubricant (such as WD-40), new feet nails (must match the original model).
- Measure the diameter of the old feet nail (usually 10-12 mm, refer to GB/T 3325-2017) to ensure the new one is the same size.
- Turn the chair upside down and check the type of damage to the feet nail (broken, worn, or loose). If the screw is rusty, spray lubricant and let it sit for 10 minutes before disassembly.
Removing the Old Feet Nail
- Use a screwdriver to turn the fixing screw counterclockwise; if the nail is stuck, gently tap around it with a rubber mallet to loosen it.
- Keep the plastic bushing of the metal nail base (if any) for reuse.
- Clean dust or rust inside the hole to ensure a tight fit for the new nail.
Installing the New Feet Nail
- Material selection: For nylon or TPU nails, a hardness of Shore 70A-90A is recommended (QB/T 4071-2020) to avoid excessive wear from being too soft or floor damage from being too hard.
- Insert vertically into the hole and turn the screw clockwise to tighten, avoiding excessive force that could crack the plastic threads.
- After installation, shake the chair to test stability and ensure all nails are at the same height (error < 2 mm).
II. Installation Points for Wooden-Legged Office Chairs
Installation Feasibility
- Solid wood or density board legs (diameter โฅ 3 cm) can accommodate adjustable feet nails, which need to be fixed with threads or expansion plugs.
- Qualified metal nails have a load-bearing capacity of 100-300 N, far exceeding the usage requirements of a single-person chair (about 500 N).
Installation Steps (Taking Threaded Nails as an Example)
- Tools: Electric drill, matching drill bit, tape measure, marking pen.
- Mark the drilling point at the center of the leg bottom to ensure vertical installation.
- Drill vertically (depth is two-thirds of the nail's thread length); apply wood glue for reinforcement if the leg is thin.
- Screw the nail in until it is flush with the leg bottom; adjust the height by rotating the nail directly.
III. Common Problems and Solutions
Frequent Detachment of Feet Nails
- Cause: Worn screw hole or mismatched nail size.
- Solution: Fill the hole with epoxy resin glue, let it cure for 24 hours, and then reinstall; or replace with self-locking nails.
Squeaking Noise
- Check if the contact surface between the nail and the floor is flat and sand down any burrs on the bottom.
IV. Maintenance Recommendations
- Check the wear of the nails every six months, especially for chairs that are used frequently.
- Avoid long-term use in humid environments to prevent rusting of metal parts.
V. Tool Selection Basis
- Threaded nails: Use a screwdriver for installation.
- Ordinary nails: Use a hammer for installation.
- U-shaped/C-shaped nails: Use a staple gun, needle-nose pliers, or a screwdriver for installation.
