How to Install an Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The steps for installing an office chair are as follows:

Step 1: Install the Casters and Chair Base Insert each caster into the mounting holes of the five-pronged chair base, ensuring that each wheel is fully seated and secure without any looseness. After installation, place the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair base, ensuring that the bottom of the gas lift is in tight contact with the base to provide stable support for subsequent assembly.

Step 2: Secure the Seat Plate and Seat Place the seat plate on the bottom of the seat, paying attention to the orientation of the plate (usually the side with the adjustment buttons faces forward). After aligning the screw holes of the plate and the seat, use a screwdriver to insert each screw 3-4 turns initially, ensuring that all screws are preliminarily fixed. Then, tighten each screw one by one until they can no longer turn. Some models may use four long screws to directly connect the base to the seat or fix the plate to the seat surface with screws, so adjust the operation according to the specific design.

Step 3: Connect the Backrest and Seat Align the bottom sides of the backrest with the armrest mounting positions on both sides of the seat, and slowly insert them until the bottom is fully in contact. First, use two screws to secure the bottom of the backrest from the bottom of the armrest bracket, ensuring a preliminary connection between the backrest and the seat. Then, align the mounting holes at the back of the backrest with those on the seat bracket, and use two wrenches to lock the screws in place (one hand holds the nut, and the other tightens the screw) to prevent loosening due to unilateral force. Some models may be fixed with back-to-seat connecting brackets or connect the backrest after the seat is installed, so refer to the instructions for the correct order.

Step 4: Install the Armrests Press the button below the armrest surface (some models do not have a button design), align the left and right armrests with the holes on the armrest brackets, and slowly insert them until the bottom is fully in contact. If designed for screw fixation, use a No. 3 screw to secure the armrests to the frame, ensuring that the screws are tightened and the armrests are free from wobbling.

Step 5: Install the Headrest Place the headrest vertically in the middle position at the top of the backrest, and press firmly on the headrest mounting area to make it fit snugly against the backrest. Insert a screw through the headrest fixing clip, initially insert each screw 3-4 turns, and then tighten them one by one to ensure that the headrest is secure and can adjust its height (if designed to be adjustable).

Step 6: Overall Assembly Align the holes at the bottom of the seat with the top of the gas lift, and insert them vertically downward until the seat plate is fully seated on the gas lift. Then, insert the chair base (including wheels) vertically onto the bottom of the gas lift, ensuring that all components are tightly connected and not tilted. After installation, test the chair's lifting function by adjusting the gas lift and check that all components are secure.
