How to Fold Office Chairs

Admin October 14, 2026

The folding or collapsing method for office chairs should be selected based on the specific type. Here are the methods for common types:

Steps for Collapsing Common Folding Chairs

  1. Initial Adjustment of Chair Legs and Backrest
Fully extend the chair legs to a vertical position, ensuring they make stable contact with the ground. During this step, check that the joints of the chair legs are flexible to avoid any hindrance to subsequent operations. If the chair legs have adjustable height knobs, lock them in a fixed position first to prevent height changes during folding that could affect stability.

  2. Flattening the Backrest and Securing with Buckles
Slowly flatten the backrest until it is completely flush with the seat. At this point, observe whether there are dedicated buckles at the connection between the backrest and the seat (usually located on the side or bottom of the chair). Press the buckles with your hand until you hear a 'click' sound, indicating that the buckles are fully locked. Then, gently shake the chair to confirm that there is no looseness or abnormal noise between the backrest and the seat, ensuring a stable collapsed state.

Steps for Collapsing Office Folding Chairs (with Fixed Buckles)

  1. Adjusting the Chair Height and Locating the Buckles
Lower the entire chair body close to the ground to facilitate subsequent operations. Look for small buckles on the outer side of the chair legs (usually made of plastic or metal, with a raised or recessed design). These buckles are the key components for controlling the retraction of the chair legs, so ensure they are not blocked by foreign objects or damaged.

  2. Simultaneous Retraction of Chair Legs and Backrest
Press the small buckles on the outer side of the chair legs with your thumb or palm while using your other hand to gently push the backrest towards the seat. At this point, the chair legs will automatically retract inward after the buckles are released, forming an 'X' - shaped structure. If the chair legs do not retract smoothly, check whether the buckles are fully pressed down or adjust the force used to push the backrest.

  3. Final Alignment of the Seat and Chair Legs
Flip the seat downwards until it is completely flush with the retracted chair legs. At this point, observe whether there are side buckles at the connection between the seat and the chair legs (usually of the rotating or pin - type). Tighten the side buckles to ensure there are no gaps between the seat and the chair legs. Finally, shake the chair again to confirm that the overall structure is not loose, completing the collapse.

Precautions:

  • Clear the space around the chair before operating to avoid colliding with objects or people during the folding process.
  • If the buckles are difficult to press down or the chair legs cannot be retracted, do not force them. Instead, check for damaged parts or foreign object blockages.
  • For folding chairs that have not been used for a long time, apply a small amount of lubricating oil to the joints before collapsing to prevent rust and ensure flexibility.
