How to Fold an Office Chair

Admin October 14, 2026

The folding steps for an office folding chair are as follows:

The design of an office folding chair typically focuses on convenient storage, and its folding process mainly relies on the fixed buckle structure between the chair legs and the backrest. Here are the specific operating steps and principle explanations:

Step 1: Adjust the Chair Height
Place the chair flat on the ground or a stable surface. Hold the edges on both sides of the seat with your hands and gently press down to lower the entire chair body to the lowest position. This step reduces resistance during subsequent operations and prevents the buckle from being difficult to unlock due to excessive height.

Step 2: Locate the Buckles on the Outside of the Chair Legs
Observe the connection between the chair legs and the backrest. Usually, there are small plastic or metal buckles located in the middle section on the outside of both chair legs. The function of these buckles is to fix the chair legs in the extended position and prevent accidental folding. Some buckles may have raised markings or color distinctions for quick identification.

Step 3: Unlock the Buckles and Fold the Chair Legs
Press the buckles vertically with your thumb or index finger while gently pushing the backrest towards the seat with your other hand. Once the buckles are unlocked, the connection between the chair legs and the backrest will lose its fixation, and both chair legs will fold inward due to gravity or slight external force. Note that the pressure applied to the buckles should be moderate to avoid damaging them with excessive force.

Step 4: Fold the Seat and Secure It
After the chair legs are fully folded parallel to the seat, flip the seat downward to make it fit against the surface of the chair legs. At this point, check for any gaps or misalignments between the seat and the chair legs to ensure a tight fold. Finally, locate the secondary fixed buckles on the side or bottom of the chair legs (some models are designed here) and fasten them to prevent the seat from accidentally unfolding.

Precautions:

  1. Clear the seat and surrounding area of items before folding to prevent them from falling or getting stuck in the mechanical structure during operation.
  2. If the buckles are tight, wrap your fingers with a soft cloth to increase friction or use a tool like a screwdriver to assist in pressing (ensure the tool does not scratch the chair body).
  3. For folding chairs that have not been used for a long time, the buckles may become stuck due to dust or oxidation. Before folding, spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) and wipe it clean.

By following these steps, an office folding chair can be quickly folded, reducing the occupied space to 1/3 to 1/2 of its extended state, making it convenient for storage or transportation.
