How to Fix an Office Chair

Admin October 10, 2026

The methods for fixing an office chair mainly fall into two categories: securing individual components during installation and repairing a sinking chair to achieve a fixed height.

Securing Components During Installation

  • Castor Installation: Insert each castor into the five-pronged assembly holes one by one, ensuring that each castor is firmly installed to prevent loosening or detachment during subsequent use.
  • Gas Cylinder Installation: Flip the five-pronged base and place the thicker end of the gas cylinder into the center hole of the base, ensuring a tight connection between the gas cylinder and the base to provide stable support for the installation of other components.
  • Base and Seat Cushion Installation: Place the base on the seat cushion, paying attention to the orientation of the base. Align the four screw holes, then gently screw in the four B screws about 3 - 4 turns each, and then tighten them one by one to ensure a firm connection between the base and the seat cushion. Align the seat cushion with the gas cylinder and insert it into the base hole so that the seat cushion can be stably installed on the gas cylinder.
  • Backrest Installation: Align the two sides at the bottom of the backrest with the armrest installation positions on both sides of the seat cushion and insert them. First, use two C screws to fix the bottom of the backrest from the bottom of the armrest bracket. Then, align the installation holes at the back of the backrest and the seat cushion bracket, and use two wrenches to lock the backrest and the seat cushion bracket together with D screws to ensure the stability and firmness of the backrest installation.
  • Armrest Installation: Press the button below the armrest surface and insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively, ensuring that the armrests can be used normally and will not wobble.
  • Headrest Installation: Place the headrest in the middle position at the top of the backrest, press the headrest installation area to make the headrest fit the backrest better, and use two E screws to pass through the headrest fixing buckles to fix the headrest. Gently screw in the two screws about 3 - 4 turns each and then tighten them one by one to ensure the headrest is firmly installed.

Repairing a Sinking Office Chair to Achieve a Fixed Height

  • Using a Hose Clamp: Slide the plastic skirt down from the cylinder and adjust the chair to the desired height. If the skirt needs to be removed, follow specific steps. Wrap the hose clamp around the gas cylinder without tightening it first. Improve the grip by wrapping rubber bands, tape, or sanding the cylinder. Tighten the clamp as much as possible, confirm the height, and then secure and test it.
  • Using PVC Pipes: Measure the diameter of the gas cylinder and its length at the perfect height. Purchase suitable PVC pipes, which can be cut by yourself or kept intact. Slide the pipe over the gas cylinder so that the cut side is clamped around the cylinder.
