How to Fix an Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The method for fixing an office chair mainly depends on the design type of its tilt-lock function. Here are the specific operational steps:

  1. Confirm Functionality and Safety Check First, confirm whether the office chair has a tilt-lock function (not all chairs have this design). Place the chair on a stable surface and inspect key areas such as the seat, base, and gas lift for any obvious damage or looseness to ensure operational safety.

  2. Locate the Locking Components Bend down to observe the underside of the seat (especially the right side) or the sides to find the handle, lever, knob, or push-pull button that controls the locking. These components are usually made of plastic or metal and are the core devices for adjusting the backrest angle.

  3. Operate According to the Locking Type

    • Handle/Lever Locking (Most Common) The adjustment handle is mostly located on the right side under the seat. After sitting firmly, pull the handle backward or upward while slowly leaning back with your back; the backrest will tilt. When you reach the desired angle, release the handle. A clicking sound indicates successful locking. To return to an upright sitting position, pull the handle again and lean forward; the backrest will automatically rebound.
    • Knob Adjustment System (Common in Ergonomic Chairs) The knob is usually located near the center of the bottom of the seat close to theๆ”ฏๆŸฑ (support column). Turn the knob clockwise to increase the backward resistance (suitable for heavier individuals) and counterclockwise to decrease the resistance (suitable for lighter individuals). Some models of knobs also have a locking function, requiring rotation to a specific position or a "pull-out-adjust-press" sequence to complete the locking. Refer to the product manual for specific operations.
    • Push-Pull Button Type The button may be set independently or integrated next to the handle. Pull the button outward to unlock the tilt function, adjust the angle, and then press the button inward to lock the current position.
  4. Troubleshoot Fixing Failure Issues If the chair cannot be fixed or automatically rebounds, follow these steps to troubleshoot:

    • Slight Shaking Check: Tighten all screws and bolts at the connections between the bottom of the seat and the base, and between the armrests and the seat.
    • Locking Component Status: Confirm that the handle or lever is fully returned to its original position and operate it repeatedly to ensure smooth movement; check for any foreign objects stuck or deformation damage in metal clips and other parts.
    • Gas Lift Problem: If the chair slowly sinks or cannot be locked, it may be due to a decrease in the sealing of the gas lift. Contact a professional for repair or replacement of the component.

By following these steps, you can systematically solve the problem of fixing an office chair and ensure safe and comfortable use.
