How to Distinguish Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

Distinguishing office chairs can be approached from two aspects: type and design characteristics:

From the perspective of type, office chairs are mainly divided into ergonomic chairs and ordinary swivel chairs. Ergonomic chairs are designed for people who sit for long periods. Their most significant feature is the ability to dynamically adjust according to the movements of the waist, effectively alleviating lower back pain caused by prolonged sitting. They offer rich adjustment functions for various components. The headrest can be adjusted according to the position and height of the head, providing good support for the neck. The armrests can be adjusted up and down, forward and backward, and left and right to accommodate different arm positions. The lumbar support can also be adjusted according to the curve and pressure of the waist, providing precise support for the lower back. In contrast, ordinary swivel chairs are basic models with relatively simple functions, usually only offering height adjustment and rotation. They cannot flexibly adjust according to the needs of different body parts and mainly meet basic sitting requirements.

In terms of design characteristics, common computer chairs, which are standard in many offices, have certain design features. The middle part of these chairs often protrudes inward, which to some extent restricts the natural sitting posture of the body. Prolonged use of such chairs with improper sitting posture can easily lead to excessive tension in the waist muscles, potentially causing health issues such as lumbar muscle strain. In contrast, ergonomic chairs place greater emphasis on ergonomic principles in their design, fully considering the physiological structure and movement needs of the human body. Their overall shape and the layout of various components are carefully designed to better fit the body's curves and disperse body pressure, allowing users to maintain relative comfort even during long periods of sitting. However, due to the use of higher-quality materials and more complex design processes, ergonomic chairs are relatively more expensive, while ordinary computer chairs are more affordable, which is another obvious difference between the two beyond design characteristics.
