How to Disinfect Office Chairs
Admin October 22, 2026
Office chairs can be disinfected using methods such as wiping, spraying, and ultraviolet disinfection, while following the principle of 'clean first, then disinfect'.

Wiping Disinfection
- Preparing the Disinfectant: You can choose a chlorine-containing disinfectant, such as 84 disinfectant, and dilute it according to the instructions. 84 disinfectant with an effective chlorine content of 500mg/L can be used to wipe the surface of the chair. Alternatively, 75% alcohol can be used, which is effective in killing a variety of bacteria and viruses.
- Wiping Operation: Wear gloves and use a clean cloth dipped in the diluted disinfectant to carefully wipe all parts of the chair, including the seat, backrest, armrests, and legs. Ensure that each part is covered with the disinfectant, and wipe for no less than 15 - 30 seconds. After wiping, wait for it to dry naturally.
Spray Disinfection
- Choosing the Disinfectant: In addition to chlorine-containing disinfectants and alcohol, you can also use chlorine dioxide disinfectants, etc. These disinfectants are highly effective, safe, and environmentally friendly.
- Spraying Operation: Pour the disinfectant into a sprayer and configure it according to the specified concentration. Spray the chair thoroughly to ensure that the disinfectant adheres evenly to the surface of the chair. When spraying, maintain an appropriate distance to avoid excessive splashing of the disinfectant. After spraying, let the chair dry naturally or wipe it dry with a clean cloth.
Ultraviolet Disinfection
- Preparing the Ultraviolet Lamp: Choose an ultraviolet lamp with an appropriate power to ensure that it can effectively cover the chair.
- Disinfection Operation: In the absence of people, turn on the ultraviolet lamp and irradiate the chair for 30 - 60 minutes. Ultraviolet light can destroy the DNA structure of microorganisms, thereby achieving the purpose of disinfection. However, note that ultraviolet light is harmful to human skin and eyes, so ensure that there are no people around when using it.
Following the Principle of 'Clean First, Then Disinfect'
- Removing Residues: Use utensils or tools to remove visible food residues and garbage from the chair.
- Cleaning the Surface: Use a wet cloth with a cleaning agent to wipe the seat surface and edges to remove oil stains and dirt.
- Disinfection Treatment: Spray or wipe with a disinfectant solution containing 250mg/L of effective chlorine or 75% alcohol, and let it act for 5 - 10 minutes.
- Wiping with Clean Water: Use a clean wet cloth to remove the residual disinfectant.
- Natural Drying: Ensure that the chair is completely dry before using it again.
