How to Disassemble an Office Chair
You can refer to the following steps to disassemble an office chair. Pay attention to safety and avoid violent disassembly during the process:

1. Understand the Structure and Prepare Tools An office chair usually consists of parts such as chair legs, casters, a base, a seat, a gas lift, a backrest, armrests, and a headrest. Before disassembly, clarify how each component is connected and prepare tools like a screwdriver, a rubber mallet, and a wooden board. If the chair supports one-click disassembly, you can try this method first: Pull the disassembly lever on the left or right side of the seat separately and lift the seat upward at the same time to separate some components; if you pull the levers on both sides simultaneously, you can complete the overall one-click disassembly.
2. Loosen Screws and Separate Components Loosen the screws in the reverse order of installation. For example, if the armrests are fixed to both sides of the seat with screws, use a screwdriver to turn the screws counterclockwise to remove them and then separate the armrests. If the backrest and the seat are connected by snaps or screws, first find the fixing points and release the constraints. Be sure to keep all screws and small parts to avoid losing them.
3. Disassemble the Seat and the Gas Lift This is one of the difficult parts of disassembly. First, separate the backrest (if it is an integrated design with the seat, you can skip this step), and then raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the bottom of the seat firmly with one hand and continuously press the height-adjustment lever with the other hand. At the same time, shake the seat from side to side and gradually loosen the connection between the gas lift and the seat using the principle of leverage. If the snaps are too tight, you can apply a small amount of lubricant at the contact point between the seat and the gas lift to assist in disassembly.
4. Separate the Gas Lift and the Chair Legs Place the chair legs upside down on a stable surface and strike the top of the gas lift vertically with a rubber mallet to separate the two through vibration. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can place a wooden board at the contact point between the gas lift and the chair legs and then gently tap the wooden board with an ordinary hammer to avoid directly striking and damaging the components. Control the force when tapping to prevent the gas lift from suddenly popping out due to internal high pressure.
5. Disassemble the Casters and the Chair Legs If you need to further disassemble the chair legs, check how the casters are connected to the chair legs. Most casters are fixed by snaps or screws. For snap-on casters, you can use a screwdriver to pry the edge of the snap and pull the casters out at the same time. For screw-on casters, you need to use the corresponding tool to remove the screws and then separate them. Casters that have been used for a long time may be difficult to disassemble due to dust accumulation. You can first clean the gaps with a brush before operating.
Precautions:
- Take photos of the entire chair and the connection points of each component before disassembly for reference during subsequent assembly.
- The gas lift contains high-pressure gas. Do not disassemble or puncture it by yourself. It should be handled by professionals.
- If you encounter components that cannot be loosened during the disassembly process, do not force them. It is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a maintenance technician for assistance.
