How to Disassemble an Office Chair

Admin October 11, 2026

Taking the Beๆฐช Office Chair BC03Q Premium Edition as an example, the steps for disassembling an office chair are as follows:

1. Removing the Headrest
Pull the headrest to its highest position. Locate the thin metal strip in the middle where the headrest connects to the backrest. Use your fingers or a discarded hard card to press down firmly on the metal strip. Once you feel the headrest's locking mechanism loosen, pull the headrest straight up. If the metal strip offers significant resistance, try adjusting the pressing angle multiple times to avoid damaging the components by pulling too hard.

2. Removing the Armrests
Invert the entire chair onto a high and stable platform (such as a workbench or table) to ensure sufficient operating space. Use the hex wrench that comes with the chair to loosen the fixing screws beneath the armrests. If the screws are too tight, first loosen them slightly with the wrench, then assist with your hands. After removing the screws, the armrests can be separated from the chair body.

3. Separating the Backrest from the Base
With the chair still inverted, locate the fixing screws where the backrest connects to the base (usually located beneath or on the side of the backrest). Use the hex wrench to completely remove the screws, making sure to save them for reassembly later. After removing the screws, the backrest can be separated from the base. Hold the backrest steady during this operation to prevent it from falling.

4. Separating the Five-Star Base from the Gas Spring
Return the chair to its upright position. Use a rubber mallet (if a rubber mallet is not available, wrap a regular hammer with a soft cloth to reduce noise) to evenly tap the five legs of the five-star base, using vibration to loosen the connection between the five-star base and the gas spring. Control the force when tapping to avoid damaging the coating on the gas spring's surface. After separation, the five-star base can be removed individually.

5. Separating the Gas Spring from the Base
Invert the chair again and use the rubber mallet to tap the connection area between the base plate and the gas spring, focusing on the area around the top of the gas spring. While tapping, gently shake the base from side to side to help loosen the connection. After separation, the gas spring is completely detached from the base.

6. Removing the Casters
Grasp the root of the caster with your hand and pull it straight up with force. If the caster is stuck due to long-term use, rotate it slightly left and right before pulling it out to avoid damaging the caster by prying it with tools.

Additional Notes
Another general disassembly method applies to gas rod separation: Face the chair directly, step on the five-star base with your feet, pull the height adjustment lever to its highest position and hold it, and grasp both sides of the chair body with your hands. Apply appropriate force upward according to the chair's age of use (the longer it has been used, the greater the resistance), while shaking the chair body left and right to assist in separating the gas rod. This method requires caution to avoid losing balance due to excessive force.
