How to Disassemble an Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

The method for disassembling an office chair depends on its model and design. Here are some common steps:

I. Disassembly Steps for the Beluck Office Chair BC03Q Deluxe Edition

  1. Headrest Disassembly: Pull the headrest to its highest position, press down firmly on the thin metal strip in the middle, and pull it out once it loosens (you can use a hard card to assist in holding down the metal strip).
  2. Armrest Disassembly: Invert the chair on a high platform and use the hex wrench that comes with the box to loosen the screws beneath the armrests.
  3. Separation of the Backrest and Base:
    • Use a hex wrench to remove the screws securing the backrest;
    • For the base, use a rubber mallet (or a regular hammer with a towel) to tap the five legs of the star base, separating them from the gas spring;
    • Continue tapping the steel plate on the base to separate the gas spring from the base.
  4. Separation of the Star Base and Casters: Simply pull out the casters to complete the overall disassembly.

II. Disassembly Method for General-Purpose Office Chairs (Tools Required)

  1. Gas Cylinder Disassembly: Face the chair, step on the star base with your foot, pull the height adjustment lever to its highest position and hold it, and grasp both sides of the chair with your hands, shaking it left and right and pulling it upwards (the older the chair, the more force is required).
  2. Disassembly of Other Components:
    • The screws connecting the armrests, backrest, and base need to be removed with a hex wrench, following steps similar to those for disassembling the armrests of the Beluck office chair;
    • If there are snap-fit designs between components, first observe the position of the snaps and gently pry them apart with a screwdriver.

III. Disassembly Method Without Professional Tools

  1. Headrest Disassembly:
    • For a slip-on design, simply pull it out;
    • For a screw-fixed type, use a screwdriver to remove it.
  2. Armrest Disassembly: The screws may be located on the back frame or seat cushion frame and need to be loosened by hand or with a hand drill.
  3. Separation of the Backrest and Base: Lay the chair down and tap the connection points with a hammer and a towel (to avoid scratching the surface) to separate the back frame from the chassis.
  4. Separation of the Hydraulic Rod and Chair Legs: Tap the connection points between the hydraulic rod and the chassis, as well as the chair legs, with a hammer to loosen and separate them.

Precautions:

  • It is recommended to take photos of the chair in its original state before disassembly for reference during reassembly;
  • Keep all small components (such as screws, adapters, and instruction manuals) and pack them properly;
  • Use a towel when tapping with a hammer to prevent scratching the surface of the chair;
  • If a component is stuck, you can spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to assist in disassembly.
