How to Compare Office Chair Casters: Key Criteria
Key criteria for comparing office chair casters include material, load-bearing capacity, wheel type, and compatibility with different floor types.

Material: The material of the casters directly affects their durability and applicable scenarios. Common materials include nylon/polypropylene (PP) and thermoplastic rubber (TPR). Nylon/PP casters are cost-effective and durable, suitable for use in humid or corrosive environments, and roll well on carpets or vinyl floors. TPR rubber casters, on the other hand, offer better shock absorption and noise reduction, making them ideal for use on hard floors without scratching the surface.
Load-Bearing Capacity: The load-bearing capacity of different casters varies significantly, and the choice should be matched according to the usage needs of the office chair. Some lightweight casters can bear approximately 20 kilograms each, suitable for lightweight office chairs or occasional use scenarios. Heavy-duty casters, however, can provide higher load-bearing capacity, such as a set of five casters capable of bearing up to 650 pounds (approximately 294.8 kilograms), suitable for office environments that require carrying heavier items or frequent movement.
Wheel Type: The design of the wheels also affects their performance. For example, hard wheels may roll with difficulty on carpets but smoothly on smooth floors; soft wheels, on the other hand, are more suitable for use on carpets and reduce wear on hard floors. Additionally, some casters are equipped with brake mechanisms for easy fixation of the office chair's position when needed.
Compatibility: Different floor types have different requirements for casters. Hard floors such as wooden floors and tiles require casters that will not scratch the floor, such as TPR rubber casters; carpets, on the other hand, require casters with lower rolling resistance, such as nylon/PP casters. Therefore, when choosing casters, it is necessary to consider their compatibility with the floor type in the office environment to ensure performance and floor protection.
