How to Clean Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

The cleaning method for office chairs should be selected based on their type and cleaning requirements, as detailed below:

I. Regular Office Chairs

  1. Preparation: Prepare a slightly damp, non-dripping cleaning cloth (to avoid water stains), a cleaning bucket, and a neutral detergent (optional). For stubborn stains on the chair, pre-treat the area with a small amount of detergent.
  2. Wiping Order: Follow the principle of 'top to bottom, outside to inside' to clean the chair back, seat cushion, armrests, legs, and edges sequentially. The edges should be wiped last to prevent secondary contamination from dust.
  3. Operation Details: After wiping each part, turn the cloth to a clean side to avoid cross-contamination; for chair legs, change the cloth side after wiping each leg to ensure cleaning effectiveness; wipe with even pressure to prevent the cloth from falling.
  4. Drying: After cleaning, use a dry cloth or natural ventilation to accelerate drying, preventing rust on metal parts or mold on fabric due to moisture.

II. Mesh Office Chairs

  1. Initial Dust Removal: Use a vacuum cleaner (equipped with a soft brush attachment) to thoroughly remove dust from the surface and crevices, preventing difficulty in detergent penetration later.
  2. Detergent Treatment: Dilute a neutral detergent according to the ratio and spray it on the chair surface, or use a dedicated mesh cleaner directly. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes to decompose stains.
  3. Deep Extraction: Alternate between using a sauna machine (to soften stains with high-temperature steam) and a high-temperature washer (for high-pressure rinsing) at least twice, while synchronously using a water extractor to dry the moisture and shorten drying time.
  4. Drying and Maintenance: After cleaning, place the chair in a well-ventilated area to dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent mesh aging; regular vacuuming maintenance can extend its lifespan.

III. Deep Cleaning Office Chairs (Suitable for leather or heavy fabric)

  1. Comprehensive Dust Removal: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust and debris from crevices, laying the foundation for subsequent cleaning.
  2. Foam Penetration: Spray a professional foam cleaner to cover the entire chair surface, letting it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the cleaner to fully penetrate the fibers and decompose deep-seated stains.
  3. High-Temperature Treatment: Use high-temperature steam equipment (such as a steam cleaner) to disinfect and clean the chair surface. High temperatures can kill bacteria and accelerate stain removal.
  4. Drying and Ventilation: Use a dry cloth to wipe away residual moisture and place the chair in a dry, well-ventilated area to dry completely, preventing odors or mildew caused by moisture.

Precautions:

  • Before cleaning, confirm the chair's material to avoid using corrosive cleaners (such as bleach) that may damage the surface.
  • Avoid scrubbing mesh chairs vigorously to prevent deformation; leather chairs require regular use of dedicated care agents for maintenance.
  • It is recommended to clean once a week (for regular dust removal) and once a month (for deep cleaning) to maintain a hygienic office environment.
