How to Clean Office Chairs
Admin October 10, 2026
The cleaning methods for office chairs vary depending on their materials and structures, requiring targeted treatment.

I. Mesh Office Chairs
- Basic Dust Removal: Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove dust particles from the surface and crevices, preventing dust from embedding into the fibers during subsequent cleaning.
- Cleaning Agent Treatment: Spray diluted cleaning agent onto the chair surface, ensuring coverage of stained areas, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow stains to detach from the fibers.
- Deep Extraction Cleaning: Alternate between using a steam cleaner and a high-temperature washing machine for at least two extraction cleanings, removing deep-seated dirt through high temperature and pressure.
- Drying Treatment: Use a water extractor to absorb residual moisture, accelerating the drying process and preventing fiber mold due to dampness.
- Comprehensive Process: Professional cleaning should include brushing, pre-treatment, focused stain treatment, water circulation cleaning, and steam sterilization and disinfection to ensure thorough cleaning.
II. Fabric Chairs
- Daily Maintenance: When staining is limited to the surface, avoid using brushes and instead use a damp cloth to gently wipe, preventing fiber pilling.
- Stain Treatment: Apply diluted cleaning agent locally, rinse with clean water, and immediately dry the moisture to prevent discoloration or mold due to residue.
III. Leather Chairs
- Dust Removal: Gently wipe surface dust with a soft, dry cloth to prevent scratching the leather.
- Stain Removal: Dip a damp cloth in a small amount of neutral cleaning agent to wipe stains, avoiding excessive force that could deform the leather.
- Drying: After wiping off surface moisture, allow it to air dry naturally. Do not expose to direct sunlight or use hot air to dry, preventing leather cracking.
IV. Solid Wood Chairs
- Dust Removal: Wipe the surface with a dry cloth and clean crevices with cotton swabs to prevent dust accumulation.
- Oil Stain Treatment: Apply a specialized cleaning agent to oil stains, wipe with a slightly damp cloth, and immediately dry to prevent moisture penetration leading to wood mold and decay.
V. Office Chair Casters
- Hair Removal: Carefully cut tangled hair with small scissors to avoid damaging the wheel structure.
- Dirt Cleaning: Wrap the casters with the textured side of a dried face cloth, secure with a rubber band, and move the chair while sitting to remove dirt through friction.
- Dirt Prevention Tips: Stick invisible tape on the wheel surface, retaining folds to increase friction and reduce dirt adhesion.
Precautions: Before cleaning, confirm the material characteristics and avoid using corrosive cleaning agents; keep solid wood and leather chairs away from high temperatures and damp environments; regularly check the mobility of casters after cleaning to ensure smooth use.
