How to Clean Office Chairs
Admin October 19, 2026
Cleaning office chairs requires targeted methods based on different components and the degree of stains. Here are the specific steps:

I. Daily Cleaning Process
Wipe in the order of backrest โ seat cushion โ armrests โ legs from top to bottom to ensure no areas are missed. Use a slightly damp and non-dripping cloth to avoid moisture residue that could cause dampness or water stains. If there are minor stains on the surface, dip a small amount of neutral detergent onto the cloth for wiping, then dry with a dry cloth.
II. Wheel Cleaning (Once a Month)
- Disassemble the Wheels: Turn the chair upside down and gently pull out the wheel brackets by hand (no tools are needed for snap-on designs); if they are stuck, use a flat-head screwdriver with a soft cloth to pry the edge of the snap-on part to avoid scratching the brackets.
- Remove Debris: Use tweezers to pick out hair or fibers from the gaps. Use an old toothbrush dipped in neutral detergent to scrub the surface and bearing gaps, rinse with water, dry with a cloth, and air-dry for 10 minutes.
- Lubricate and Reinstall: Apply 1-2 drops of special lubricant to the bearings, rotate the wheels to distribute the oil evenly, align the brackets with the snap-on parts and push in until you hear a "click" sound, then turn the chair upright and test for smoothness.
III. Deep Cleaning (Once a Quarter)
- Comprehensive Vacuuming: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust, debris from gaps, and dust from fabric fibers to prevent stains from spreading during subsequent cleaning.
- Professional Foam Treatment: Spray the cleaner onto the chair surface, use a soft-bristled brush to lightly scrub so that the foam penetrates and fixes the fibers, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then wipe off any residue.
- High-Temperature Disinfection: Use high-temperature steam equipment (such as a garment steamer) to treat the chair surface, armrests, and other parts. The temperature should be controlled between 60-80โ to kill bacteria while avoiding damage to the material.
IV. Cleaning Mesh Office Chairs
This requires a phased approach:
- Brush the Surface: Use a soft-bristled brush to lightly brush the mesh to remove surface dust.
- Pre-treat: Spray a neutral stain remover on key stains such as oil stains and coffee stains, and let it sit for 3 minutes.
- Low-Pressure Water Rinse: Rinse the mesh with low-pressure water to avoid damaging the fiber structure with high pressure.
- Steam Deep Cleaning: Use steam equipment to disinfect the mesh and remove deep-seated stains.
Precautions:
- Avoid using strong acids, strong alkalis, or bleach to prevent fading or corrosion of the material.
- Ensure the chair is thoroughly dried after cleaning to prevent mildew.
- Regular cleaning can extend the lifespan of office chairs. It is recommended to clean the wheels monthly and perform a deep cleaning quarterly.
