How to Choose an Office Chair
Admin October 10, 2026
Choosing an office chair requires considering your budget, usage scenario, and personal needs, with a focus on size suitability, core support structure, material properties, and adjustability.

1. Choose by Budget
- Budget Office Chairs (Tens to Two Hundred Yuan): Prioritize checking the thickness of metal tubes, judging load-bearing capacity by weight, with 1.2mm or more being more reliable (cautious for heavier individuals); chair legs and armrests are often designed with point tubes, and the backrest needs auxiliary support from metal tubes; choose ordinary polyester mesh fabric, avoid recycled cotton foam, and ensure the thickness of the wooden board layer is appropriate.
- Computer Chairs/Basic Office Chairs (Above Two Hundred Yuan): Avoid low-price traps and focus on the balance between back fit and seat cushion breathability. Key indicators include: dynamic lumbar support logic (whether it can adjust support force with sitting posture), mesh fabric tension decay control (whether it is prone to loosening after long-term use), and chassis backrest self-weight linkage (whether it can automatically adjust resistance according to body weight when leaning back).
- Ergonomic Office Chairs (Thousand-Yuan Level): Prioritize choosing brand models with mature structures to ensure core functions (such as lumbar support and chassis) have been market-tested, avoiding paying for 'pseudo-ergonomic' designs.
2. Core Functions Suitable for Usage Scenarios
- Mainly Sitting Upright for Office Work: Focus on lumbar support (needs to fit the lumbar curve), seat cushion comfort (foam with moderate softness or elastic mesh fabric), and adjustable armrest height (to avoid arm suspension); if typing for long periods, armrests need to support forward/backward and left/right adjustments.
- Frequently Leaning Back for Rest: Choose models with a large backrest range of motion (such as above 135ยฐ) and chassis that supports multi-level locking (such as 3-5 levels of backrest resistance adjustment); the headrest needs to be adjustable in height and angle to ensure neck support when leaning back.
3. Key Parameters and Material Selection
- Size Suitability: The seat height should allow feet to land naturally (recommended seat height of 40-45cm for those under 170cm tall); the seat depth should leave 2-3 fingers' space at the back of the knee (to avoid pressing on the thighs); those over 180cm tall need to pay attention to backrest height (at least covering the scapula) and headrest adjustment range.
- Material Properties: Mesh fabric is more breathable than foam, but pay attention to tension decay (high-quality mesh fabric remains elastic after 3 years of use); foam seat cushions should avoid being too soft (prone to collapse) or too hard (pressing on the buttocks), with the sense of enclosure varying from person to person; for metal parts, prioritize thickened steel pipes (stronger load-bearing capacity), and plastic parts should be odorless (avoid recycled materials).
4. Details and After-sales
- Adjustability: At least support seat height and backrest resistance adjustment; ergonomic chairs need to have adjustable lumbar support height/depth and multi-dimensional armrest adjustment (up/down, forward/backward, rotation); check the parts list before installation to avoid affecting use due to missing parts.
- After-sales Terms: Prioritize choosing brands that support trial sitting (such as 7-day no-reason return and exchange) and have a long warranty period (at least 3 years); heavier individuals need to confirm the load-bearing range (usually 100-130kg).
