How to Assemble Office Chair Gas Lift Step by Step

Admin November 05, 2026

The steps for assembling the gas lift of an office chair are as follows:

  1. Insert the gas lift into the base
Select the base type according to the chair model (five-star base or chrome-plated base), and vertically insert the gas lift (E) into the mounting hole at the center of the base. The gas lift is usually designed with a self-locking mechanism and will automatically lock in place after insertion. Ensure that the gas lift is fully flush with the base to avoid looseness or tilting. If the base does not have pre-installed casters, first flip the base over, align the casters (G or E) with the slots or threaded holes on the base, and press or rotate them firmly until they are fully embedded.

  2. Connect the seat plate to the gas lift
Fix the seat plate (D) to the bottom of the seat (B) using hexagon socket bolts (I and H), and tighten the bolts with a hexagon socket wrench (M). Note that the bolts should be tightened crosswise to ensure even force distribution on the seat plate. Then, align the top of the gas lift with the mounting hole at the center of the seat plate, insert it vertically, and rotate it slightly to fully engage the gas lift with the buckles or threads on the seat plate. Keep the gas lift vertical during insertion to avoid instability due to misalignment.

  3. Final assembly and adjustment
After connecting the gas lift to the base and the seat plate, do not fully tighten all the bolts yet. Flip the chair over to its normal sitting position, gently press on the seat surface to ensure full contact and self-locking between the gas lift, the base, and the seat plate. Test the structural stability by applying even pressure. Once no wobbling is confirmed, use tools to tighten all the bolts and screws one by one to ensure a secure connection. If the gas lift is height-adjustable, test the lifting and lowering functions after assembly to ensure they work properly.

Precautions:

  • Check the parts list before assembly to ensure that all components such as the gas lift, base, and casters are complete.
  • Avoid excessive force during operation to prevent damage to the self-locking mechanism or threads of the gas lift.
  • If there are anti-slip pads or plastic buckles at the connection between the gas lift and the seat plate, ensure they are installed correctly to prevent sliding.
  • After assembly, it is recommended to regularly check the tightness of the bolts to prevent loosening due to long-term use.
