How to Assemble an Office Chair

Admin October 11, 2026

The steps for assembling an office chair are as follows:

  1. Install the casters and chair base
Install each caster into the corresponding hole on the chair base, ensuring that each caster is fully seated and rotates freely. After installation, insert the gas lift vertically into the central hole of the chair base. Confirm that the bottom of the gas lift is in tight contact with the chair base to prevent loosening. The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the seat height, so it must be kept vertical during installation to prevent tilting or jamming during subsequent use.

  2. Secure the seat plate and seat
Place the seat plate on the bottom of the seat, paying attention to the orientation of the seat plate (usually marked or with grooves corresponding to the seat structure). After aligning the four screw holes on the seat plate with those on the seat, use a screwdriver to screw each screw in 3-4 turns initially to ensure all screws are loosely fixed, then tighten them one by one. Avoid tightening a single screw all the way at once in this step, as it may cause the seat plate and seat to not fit tightly, affecting stability.

  3. Connect the backrest and seat
If the office chair has armrests, first connect the backrest to the armrest brackets temporarily: use two screws to pass through from the bottom of the armrest brackets to secure the bottom of the backrest. Then align the back of the backrest with the mounting holes on the seat bracket and use two wrenches (or hex keys) to lock the screws in place. Ensure there are no gaps at the connection between the backrest and seat bracket in this step, as uneven force may cause loosening or abnormal noise.

  4. Install the base and gas lift
Insert the base with the seat already fixed vertically into the top of the gas lift, applying appropriate pressure to ensure full insertion. Some gas lifts may have a snap-fit or threaded design at the top, so adjust the insertion method according to the actual structure. After installation, gently press down on the seat to test the lifting function of the gas lift, confirming there is no jamming or sinking.

  5. Install the armrests and headrest
Press the button below the armrest surface (some models have a spring clip design), and insert the left and right armrests into the holes on the armrest brackets respectively. A "click" sound indicates that they are properly installed. When installing the headrest, place it in the middle at the top of the backrest, press the headrest mounting area to make it fit the backrest, then pass a screw through the headrest fixing clip and tighten it. The height of the headrest is usually adjustable, so confirm that the clip position matches the backrest before installation.

Precautions: The screw specifications (such as M6, M8, etc.) and mounting holes may vary among different models of office chairs. Read the instruction manual carefully or check the parts list before installation. If you encounter issues such as misaligned screw holes or difficulty inserting the gas lift, stop installation immediately and contact after-sales service to avoid damaging the components through forced operation.
