How to Assemble and Disassemble Office Chairs

Admin October 12, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of office chairs should be carried out according to standardized procedures, as detailed below:

Assembly Steps

  1. Assemble the Chair Base and Gas Lift
Install the casters one by one into the corresponding holes on the chair base (five-star base), ensuring the clips are in place. Then, insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair base, keeping it upright to avoid instability caused by tilting.

  2. Secure the Seat Plate to the Seat
Use a screwdriver and matching screws to fix the seat plate (including the height adjustment mechanism) to the bottom of the seat. Ensure the screws are tightened to prevent looseness, but avoid over-tightening to prevent stripping.

  3. Connect the Backrest to the Seat
Align the metal bracket of the backrest with the slots or screw holes on the back of the seat, securing it with screws or directly snapping it in (depending on the design). After assembling the upper body, place the entire unit vertically, align the hole at the bottom of the seat with the top of the gas lift, and press down firmly until fully embedded.

  4. Install the Armrests and Headrest
Depending on the connection method of the armrests and headrest (e.g., screw fixation, clip insertion), install them in the corresponding positions on the seat or backrest. Some headrests require height adjustment; after installation, test for smooth sliding.

Disassembly Steps

  1. Separate the Backrest from the Seat
Check the connection method between the backrest and the seat: if secured with screws, use a screwdriver to loosen them counterclockwise; if a clip structure is used, hold both sides of the backrest and lift upwards or shake back and forth until detached.

  2. Remove the Base from the Gas Lift

    • Raise the gas lift to its highest position, press the height adjustment lever with one hand, and shake the seat back and forth with the other hand to loosen the base using inertia.
    • If not detached, invert the chair and tap evenly around the bottom steel ring of the base with a rubber mallet to loosen the internal clips, then try to pry it open.
    • For stubborn cases, step on part of the chair base with your foot and shake the seat up and down with both hands, using leverage to detach it.
  3. Separate the Gas Lift from the Chair Base
Invert the chair base and tap the top of the gas lift with a rubber mallet (use a wooden board as a buffer if no rubber mallet is available) until the gas lift comes out of the center hole of the chair base.

  4. Disassemble Other Components
Reverse the assembly order, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the seat plate, armrests, and other parts, and remove the components one by one.

Precautions

  • Safety First: Avoid using excessive force during disassembly to prevent parts from flying off or the gas lift from suddenly ejecting and causing injury.
  • Tool Preparation: Prepare tools such as a screwdriver, wrench, and rubber mallet in advance. Some screws may require a wrench of the corresponding size.
  • Record the Structure: Take photos to record the positions of each component before disassembly to avoid misalignment during reassembly.
  • Component Storage: Store small components such as screws and clips separately to prevent loss.
