How to Assemble and Disassemble Office Chairs

Admin October 10, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of office chairs should follow the principle of installing from the bottom up and disassembling from the top down. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

I. Assembly Steps

  1. Assemble the Chair Base and Casters
Insert each caster vertically into the mounting holes of the chair base, ensuring that the clips are fully engaged to prevent loosening. If the casters are screw-fixed, tighten the screws with a wrench.

  2. Install the Gas Lift
Insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair base, ensuring that the bottom fully contacts the inner wall of the chair base. Note: The gas lift must be kept upright to avoid internal pressure imbalance caused by tilting.

  3. Secure the Seat Plate to the Seat
Use a Phillips screwdriver to fix the seat plate to the bottom of the seat with screws, ensuring that the screws are tightened until the seat plate and the seat are free from wobbling. Some seat plates require clip installation, and a โ€œclickโ€ sound should be heard to confirm that the clips are in place.

  4. Connect the Backrest to the Seat
Align the mounting holes of the backrest with the fixing positions at the rear of the seat, and secure them with screws or clips. If the backrest is adjustable in angle, install the adjustment handle and test its flexibility.

  5. Insert the Seat Assembly onto the Gas Lift
Vertically slide the assembled seat assembly onto the top of the gas lift, and gently shake to confirm that the connection is secure. Avoid violent pressing to prevent damage to the gas lift.

  6. Install the Armrests and Headrest
According to the armrest design, use an Allen wrench or screwdriver to fix them to the sides of the seat or below the backrest. If the headrest is detachable, align it with the slot at the top of the backrest and tighten the fixing screws.

II. Disassembly Steps

  1. Separate the Backrest from the Seat
Unscrew the screws at the connection between the backrest and the seat or press the clips to lift the backrest upward for separation. If the connection is rusted, spray loosening fluid before operation.

  2. Remove the Seat Assembly from the Gas Lift
Raise the gas lift to the highest position, hold the seat with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand, and shake to separate the seat assembly from the gas lift. If the clips are too tight, gently tap the bottom of the seat with a rubber mallet to assist in loosening.

  3. Extract the Gas Lift from the Chair Base
Invert the chair base, tap the top of the gas lift with a rubber mallet, or tap it with a regular hammer after padding it with a wooden board to remove the gas lift from the chair base. Do not tap directly with a metal hammer to prevent damage to the paint surface.

  4. Disassemble Other Components
Unscrew the screws of the armrests and headrest in the reverse order of assembly, and separate the seat plate from the seat. If the screws are rusted, use a hand drill or loosening fluid for treatment.

III. Precautions

  • Tool Preparation: Prepare tools such as Phillips/flat-head screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, rubber mallets, and loosening fluid. Avoid tapping directly with a metal hammer.
  • Safe Operation: Wear gloves when disassembling the gas lift to prevent injury from internal high-pressure gas spraying; keep the chair stable during operation to avoid tipping over.
  • Component Storage: Take photos to record the structure before disassembly, and store small components such as screws separately to prevent loss.
  • Special Cases: If the gas lift is stuck to the chair base, it is recommended to contact a professional for handling to avoid damage to components caused by forced disassembly.
