How to Assemble and Disassemble Office Chairs

Admin October 11, 2026

The steps for assembling an office chair are as follows:

  1. Install the chair wheels and five-star base
Insert each chair wheel into the assembly holes at the bottom of the five-star base, ensuring that each wheel is fully embedded and secure. After completion, flip the five-star base so that the wheels face downward, forming a stable support structure.

  2. Install the gas lift
Align the thicker end of the gas lift with the central hole of the five-star base, place it vertically downward, and press lightly to ensure a tight connection between the gas lift and the five-star base. Some models may require inserting the wheels into the chair legs first, then inserting the gas lift into the central hole; adjust the order according to the specific design.

  3. Install the seat base and cushion
Place the seat base on the bottom of the cushion, paying attention to the orientation of the seat base (usually aligned with markings or grooves). After aligning the four screw holes, use a screwdriver to screw each screw in 3-4 turns to ensure the seat base is initially secured, then tighten the screws one by one to prevent uneven stress and tilting of the cushion.

  4. Connect the cushion to the gas lift
Align the assembled cushion with the top of the gas lift, insert it vertically downward into the hole in the seat base, and when you hear a 'click' sound or feel increased resistance, it indicates that it is properly installed. Some models may require lightly pressing the cushion to ensure it is fully seated against the gas lift.

  5. Install the backrest
Align the bottom sides of the backrest with the armrest mounting holes on both sides of the cushion, insert them vertically, then first secure the bottom of the backrest with screws from the bottom of the armrest brackets, then align the mounting holes at the back of the backrest with the cushion brackets, and use two wrenches to tighten the screws together (lock-to-lock) to prevent the backrest from wobbling. Some models use three M8 screws to secure the backrest and require even tightening.

  6. Install the armrests
Press the button below the armrest surface (if any), and insert the left and right armrests into the holes in the armrest brackets, ensuring they are fully embedded. Some models require using screws to connect the armrests to the cushion; first secure one armrest, flip the chair seat over, then secure the other side, and finally tighten all screws.

  7. Install the headrest
Align the bottom of the headrest with the center position at the top of the backrest, lightly press the headrest mounting area to make it fit against the backrest, thread a screw through the headrest mounting clip and screw it into the backrest, first screw each one in 3-4 turns, then fully tighten to ensure the headrest is secure and does not loosen. Some models directly insert the headrest into the reserved holes in the backrest and mounting plate.

  8. Install the footrest (if applicable)
Take the footrest and insert it into the dedicated hole under the cushion; when you hear a 'click' sound or feel increased resistance, it indicates that it is properly installed. Some footrests require additional screws for fixation; follow the instructions for operation.

Precautions: Before installation, check that all accessories are complete to avoid omissions; when tightening screws, do so in steps to prevent deformation of components; if excessive resistance or misalignment is encountered, check that the installation direction is correct and do not force assembly.
