How Office Chairs Are Produced

Admin October 22, 2026

The production process of office chairs mainly includes the following steps:

1. Making the Bottom Seat Cushion Frame
Workers use hydraulic-powered machines to bend No. 14 steel pipes into shape, constructing the bottom seat cushion frame. After connecting the ends, steel bars are welded in the middle of the frame. These steel bars are used to support the seat adjustment mechanism that will be installed later. This step requires ensuring the bending accuracy of the steel pipes and the firmness of the welding to lay the foundation for the stability of the chair.

2. Building the Seat Suspension Net
S-shaped steel springs are hung at the front and back of the seat frame to form an elastic net structure. Then, metal rods are clamped horizontally across the springs to increase the contact points, enhancing the stability and support of the seat. This design makes the seat surface elastic while preventing local sagging.

3. Making the Seat Back Frame
When constructing the back frame, the spinal support structure, armrest attachments, and other components need to be integrated. After steel processing, burrs and rough edges should be ground smooth to prevent scratching the leather or foam materials during subsequent assembly and to improve the product's appearance quality.

4. Processing the Leather
The leather is laid flat on a cutting table, and the shapes of various chair components are cut out according to cardboard templates. During cutting, natural flaws in the leather should be avoided. Reasonable layout ensures that the same chair uses the same area of leather to maintain a unified appearance and texture.

5. Cutting the Foam Pads
The filling foam is cut according to the outline of the leather. High-density foam is used for the seat cushion to maintain its shape, while low-density foam is used for the backrest to enhance comfort. The combination of different-density foams takes into account both support and ergonomic needs.

6. Sewing the Components
The leather and foam are layered and sewn together. Folds are pinched at special positions to form decorative thread patterns. This step requires completing the sewing of the seat back, side panels, and contour covers separately to ensure that the seams of each component are flat and meet the design requirements.

7. Assembling the Components
Cardboard, foam layers, and leather covers are stacked in sequence on the back frame to form a multi-layer structure. After installing the sliding plate components, the seat can achieve forward and backward position adjustment functions. During assembly, strict control of the alignment of each layer is required to avoid affecting the final user experience.

8. Installing the Adjustment Devices
The hydraulic cylinder is connected to the aluminum base to enable seat height adjustment and 360-degree rotation functions. Then, casters are inserted to ensure smooth movement and stable weight-bearing of the chair. The sealing of the hydraulic system and the wear resistance of the casters are key quality aspects of this step.

9. Installing the Headrest and Armrests
A headrest is installed at the top of the backrest, and armrests are assembled on both sides to complete the assembly of the final functional components. The height of the headrest and the angle of the armrests should meet ergonomic standards to provide neck and arm support for the user.
