How Are Rotating Office Chairs Produced
The production process of rotating office chairs mainly includes steps such as welding the base and frame, crafting the seat and backrest, assembling components, and installing functional accessories.

First, the base and frame are welded. A sturdy base is welded first, with steel springs installed from the front and support brackets inserted between the springs. After completing the seat frame, the backrest frame of the chair is welded. Workers use hydraulic-powered machines to bend 14-gauge steel pipes to form the bottom cushion frame. Rebar is welded at the ends to serve as the intermediate support and mechanism for adjusting the seat position. S-shaped steel springs are then hooked onto the front and back of the seat frame to create a flexible suspension net, and iron rods are clamped horizontally across the springs to enhance stability.
Next, the seat and backrest are crafted. The frame includes components such as spine and lumbar support and armrest attachments, with burrs and rough spots on the steel sanded down. Workers flatten the leather on a cutting table and cut out pieces according to templates, working around the leather's natural flaws. The cutting positions are calculated to minimize waste, and only one piece of leather can be used for one office chair. Simultaneously, foam blocks are cut, with different densities used in the chairโsoft foam for cushioning and hard foam for shaping and support. To maintain the shape of the foam cushion, hard foam is used for contour buffering and soft foam for the backrest area. Slits reflecting design features are cut into the backrest cushion, and chalk is used to mark corresponding positions on the leather and foam to ensure aligned cuts before stitching. When stitching the backrest, the filling is sewn onto the pattern pieces, and then the contoured shell is sewn onto the sides.
After that, components are assembled. Plywood and foam are added to the previously welded frame, and the seat is upholstered with leather. After the seat is installed, a plastic cover plate is screwed on underneath, followed by the base, support rods, and support disk. The hydraulic rod for the lifting valve seat, which controls the chair's height adjustment and 360-degree rotation, is installed.
Finally, functional accessories are installed. An aluminum base and casters are attached, along with headrest and armrest components. Additionally, a slider is screwed onto the base, and a mechanism that works with the slider is installed, allowing the seat to move forward and backward according to legroom requirements.
