When a hospital office chair is broken, the attribution of responsibility needs to be discussed on a case-by-case basis, and the handling method depends on the extent of the damage.

Attribution of Responsibility

• Natural aging or normal wear and tear: If the chair is damaged due to natural aging or normal wear and tear, the hospital may be required to bear a certain responsibility if it fails to fulfill its obligation of timely repair or replacement; if it can prove that regular inspections and maintenance have been carried out, the responsibility may be reduced or waived.
• Intentional or negligent acts by patients or visitors: If the chair is damaged due to acts such as vigorous shaking, standing and stepping on it, or a patient intentionally kicking the chair out of emotional agitation, the responsibility should be borne by the perpetrator. The hospital can request the perpetrator to compensate for the losses. If the perpetrator is unable to compensate, the hospital may need to make up for the losses through other means (such as insurance).
• Product quality defects: If the chair is damaged during use due to product quality issues such as design defects, unqualified materials, or loose screws, the manufacturer or supplier may be required to bear product liability, and the victim can claim compensation from them.
• Third-party acts: If the chair is damaged due to the accidental acts of other patients, visitors, or hospital staff, and the hospital cannot foresee or avoid it, the responsibility may be borne by the third party. However, if the hospital fails to fulfill its obligation of safety protection (such as not setting up warning signs or not clearing obstacles in a timely manner), it may be required to bear supplementary responsibility.

Handling Methods

• Minor damage: For minor issues such as loose screws, detached casters, or broken buckles, they can be solved by oneself. If a screw is loose, tighten it with the matching Allen wrench; if a caster is broken, buy a universal caster of the same specification and press it to the bottom of the slot; if a buckle is broken, you can buy a buckle of a matching model online for replacement, or use high-temperature-resistant structural adhesive for temporary reinforcement. Note that after applying the adhesive, press it tightly and let it stand for several hours.
• Moderate damage: For minor deformations of the frame or cracks at the edge of the seat plate, local part replacement and repair can be carried out. You can buy a chair frame or seat plate of the corresponding size online for replacement. For example, if the gas rod of the office chair is broken, after buying an appropriate lifting gas rod, turn the chair upside down and fix it well, use a tool to unscrew the connection between the old gas rod and the base and the seat surface, and then install the new rod; if the fabric cover of the fabric chair is damaged, choose a fabric cover of the same size that is thick and wear-resistant to put on.
• Severe damage: For issues such as a broken backrest frame, large-area cracks in the chair legs, or complete failure of the lifting or load-bearing functions, the repair cost may be close to or exceed the price of a new chair, and the safety after repair is difficult to guarantee. It is recommended to replace it directly with a new one.
