Hongqiao Office Chair Replacement

Admin October 11, 2026

The replacement of office chairs in Hongqiao involves replacing components such as seat surfaces and wheels, and it is necessary to comprehensively determine whether to replace the entire chair or individual components based on the extent of damage, cost, and usage requirements.

Seat Surface Replacement

  • Mesh Seat Surface: Prepare a screwdriver, wrench, and a new mesh seat surface that matches the original chair's dimensions. To disassemble, lay the chair down, unscrew the screws connecting the seat surface to the chassis, and separate the seat surface from the backrest buckle. During installation, align the holes, tighten the screws according to the principle of "diagonal fixation", evenly tighten the elastic bands of the mesh and secure them to the hooks on the edge of the chassis, and finally connect the backrest buckle.
  • Fabric Seat Surface: Prepare tools such as a cross-head screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, scissors, new fabric, and a staple gun (or hot-melt glue gun, self-tapping screws). Remove the old fabric and foam layer, clean the wooden frame, and check the condition of the foam. Cut the new fabric according to the old one, leaving a margin of 3-5 cm. Start fixing the new fabric from the center using a staple gun or buckle structure. Reassemble the chair and tighten all the screws, testing to ensure the fabric is not loose, there are no abnormal noises, and the support is even.

Wheel Replacement

The casters of office chairs may malfunction due to wear or foreign objects getting stuck. When replacing, if the old wheels cannot be pulled out even with pliers, use a hammer to tap them. When installing new wheels, if they do not fit in with force, try a few more times to ensure a tight connection between the wheels and the chair legs.

When to Replace the Entire Chair

  • Severe Structural Damage: If the leg frame or backrest is broken or deformed (especially for metal or wooden chairs), and repair cannot restore stability, posing a safety hazard, replacement is recommended.
  • Recurring Problems After Multiple Repairs: This indicates that the chair has reached the end of its service life, and continued repairs are costly and not cost-effective. Consider replacement.
  • Material Aging: For example, plastic chairs become brittle due to sun exposure, or leather chairs crack due to aging, which are difficult to solve through repairs. Replacement is recommended.
  • Decreased Comfort: If the cushioning material collapses or the design is outdated, resulting in a significant decrease in comfort, replacing with a new chair can better meet the needs.

Cost Considerations

Repair costs include material costs and service fees. Simple component replacements may cost a few dozen yuan, while complex repairs may cost over a hundred yuan. If the repair cost exceeds half of the original price of the chair, or if the price of a new chair is similar to the repair cost, replacement is more cost-effective. However, for chairs with sentimental value, even if the repair cost is high, it may still be worth the investment.
