Homemade Wooden Office Chair
Admin October 16, 2026
There are three common methods for making homemade wooden office chairs: solid wood chairs, free-folding chairs, and another type of folding chair. Details are as follows:

Solid Wood Chair Making:
- Design Concept: First, design the basic shape and dimensions of the chair, fully considering the width and strength of the wooden boards. A minimalist style can be chosen for both aesthetics and ease of construction.
- Material Preparation: Collect discarded wooden boards or strips, and prepare tools such as saws, electric drills, sandpaper, wood glue, and screws.
- Making Steps: First, make the chair frame by cutting the wooden boards according to the design and assembling them with wood glue and screws. Then, cut the wooden boards for the seat and sand their surfaces until smooth. Next, make the chair legs using thicker wood for stability and firmly attach them to the frame. After that, carefully sand the edges and corners of the chair to remove burrs. Finally, apply eco-friendly wood varnish to the chair to enhance its appearance and protect the wood. You can also add decorative details according to personal preference, such as carving patterns, inlaying decorations, or adding cushions.
Free-Folding Chair Making:
- Material Preparation: Prepare a wooden board measuring 90 cm in length and 58 cm in width, and stick masking tape on its surface.
- Making Steps: First, plan the chair dimensions and precisely cut the internal contours along the lines. Then, sand the edge burrs and design cut-out patterns to enhance the visual appeal. Next, place the wooden board back in its original position and fix the connections with hinges. Finally, stick anti-slip pads on the seat.
Another Type of Folding Chair Making:
- Material Preparation: Find a piece of woodworking board and cover its entire surface with masking tape.
- Making Steps: Draw patterns on the masking tape with a pen, using tools properly to ensure neat and accurate patterns. Cut out the shapes with tools, pausing or taking screenshots for study if the patterns are unclear. After cutting along the curves and removing the masking tape in sections, sand the edges until smooth. Assemble the wooden boards together, drill circular holes with a hole saw, and install hinges. Flip the seat and continue installing hinges for fixation. Open the chair to find the support points, mark the traces, and cut out two corner holes with tools so that they fit snugly inside.
