Homemade Swivel Office Chair
A homemade swivel office chair can be achieved by modifying an old chair, building with LEGO, or adding casters. Here are the specific methods:

1. Old Chair Modification Method This method is suitable for those with basic welding and carpentry skills. First, materials such as roller skate wheels, slide rails, aluminum sheets, hollow round tubes, thick wooden boards, iron frames, bearings, and fabric are required. Bend the aluminum sheets and weld them onto the hollow round tubes to serve as the connection structure between the chair legs and the wheels. The thick wooden boards need to be cut into long strips and polished smoothly for fixing the seat back. The iron frame is connected to the wooden board through bearings to ensure the seat can rotate flexibly. The fabric is used for edge binding to enhance aesthetics and comfort. The wooden part should be polished, coated with wood wax oil, drilled, and then connected to the hollow round tubes to form a movable lumbar massage structure. This plan requires attention to the welding strength and the load-bearing capacity of the wooden board to avoid structural loosening after long-term use.
2. LEGO Building Method Suitable for children or LEGO enthusiasts, this method achieves basic functions through modular assembly. Prepare LEGO baseplates, screws, and wheel components. When building, first fix three baseplates as the base, and stack two more baseplates to enhance stability. The wheels should be evenly distributed at the ends of the four legs to ensure balanced force. This method does not require complex tools but has limited load-bearing capacity, suitable only for lightweight use scenarios such as children's study chairs or model displays. To enhance durability, you can choose the LEGO Technic series, using gear and axle structures to improve rotation smoothness.
3. Caster Addition Method This is the simplest and most cost-effective solution, suitable for quickly modifying existing furniture. Purchase four or more casters (about 2 yuan each), preferably those with brake functions to enhance safety. When modifying, clean the bottom surface of the chair to ensure the adhesive sticks firmly. Distribute the casters evenly at the four corners of the chair, press and fix them, and then let them sit for 48 hours for the adhesive to fully cure. This method is applicable to chairs made of wood, plastic, or metal, but note that the total weight of the chair should not exceed the load-bearing limit of the casters (usually 10-50 kg per wheel). After modification, regularly check the rotation flexibility of the wheels and replace worn parts in a timely manner.
Precautions:
- When modifying an old chair, wear goggles and gloves to avoid injury from welding sparks or wood chips.
- When building with LEGO, ensure the screws are tightened to prevent structural loosening.
- After adding casters, test the first movement on a flat surface to avoid tipping over due to uneven ground.
