Homemade Office Chair Seat Cover

Admin October 12, 2026

You can choose different methods to make homemade office chair seat covers based on the type of chair. Here are some common methods:

Making seat covers for upholstered chairs: For upholstered chairs, pattern-making is a crucial step. Pattern-make on the side where you sit. Draw a horizontal line along the lower edge of the sitting side. To ensure the line is straight, you can also mark the points first, take off the chair parts, and then use a ruler to draw a straight line. At the same time, measure the backrest and the sitting surface. If the dimensions of the backrest are the same, you can simplify the measurement process. After pattern-making, cut the fabric according to the pattern and sew it to make the seat cover.

Making seat covers for regular chairs: First, prepare two pieces of fabric. One piece, the same size as the chair surface, serves as the front of the seat cover. It can directly cover the chair surface, providing both decoration and protection. Then, prepare a long strip of fabric that can wrap around the edge of the chair surface. This long strip acts as the width part. When sewn to the front fabric, it allows the seat cover to fit the chair edge better and prevent it from slipping off.

Making seat covers for chairs of standard sizes: Use a tape measure or other tools to accurately measure the length, width, and height of the stool. When measuring the height, add an extra inch. This is to reserve some elasticity and aesthetics for the seat cover, preventing it from being too tight and affecting use. Cut the fabric according to the measured dimensions and then sew it to make the seat cover, ensuring it matches the size of the stool.

Making seat covers for round stools: Place the round stool on the fabric and use a pen to draw the shape along the edge of the stool. Cut the fabric one centimeter outside the drawn line. This one centimeter is the seam allowance for sewing. Then, take out another piece of fabric and wrap it around the stool to measure the required length and cut it. Sew the two pieces of fabric with their front sides facing each other to form the preliminary shape of the seat cover. Next, take out a piece of fabric and press a ruffle around the edge. Pinch the ruffle while sewing to increase the aesthetics of the seat cover. Finally, thread an elastic band through it and adjust the length of the elastic band so that when it is stretched, it can just fit over the stool. Use the elasticity of the elastic band to secure the seat cover to the stool.
