Homemade Office Chair Cushion

Admin October 17, 2026

There are three common methods for making homemade office chair cushions, which can be chosen based on materials and needs:

Repurposing Old Clothes

This method is suitable for dealing with idle clothes, being low-cost and eco-friendly. First, cut off the sleeves and edges of the old clothes, fold them in half after cutting them into large pieces, and use a ruler to draw lines and cut them into rectangular blocks for later use. Then, piece the fabric blocks together and sew them into long strips with a sewing machine. Next, cut a small piece of fabric, sew it, turn it inside out, cut the remaining fabric into scraps, mix them with cotton, and fill them into the small piece of fabric. After filling, sew up the gap. Finally, beautify the edges of the cushion with black lace or other decorative materials to complete a beautiful chair cushion. The key points are the firmness of the fabric stitching and the even distribution of the filling to avoid local sagging that affects comfort.

Making with Square Fabric and Fabric Strips

This method requires preparing square fabric and fabric strips, suitable for cushions with a sense of structure. First, fold the edges of the fabric strips and iron them flat, then sew and fix them with a sewing machine. Place the fabric strips on a large piece of fabric, fix their positions with pins, and then sew the joints. Take another piece of fabric and lay it flat, leaving a gap at the edge (make a mark 15 centimeters in the middle; this part does not need to be sewn), sew the other edges, cut off the four corners, turn it inside out, and iron the edges with an electric iron. Fold the four edges, make marks at the intersection points, fill them with pearl cotton, sew up the gaps, and finally reinforce the intersection points with a hand-sewing needle. This method requires attention to the symmetry of the fabric folding and the density control of the filling to avoid the cushion being too hard or too soft.

Knitting an Executive Chair Cushion

This method is suitable for those who like hand-knitting and requires some knitting skills. The materials include eight skeins of yarn and two liang of combined yarn, with a width of about 50 centimeters. Cast on 40 stitches, and the length can be adjusted according to needs. Reserve two meters of yarn at the end for sewing and tie a piece of yarn at the bottom of the cushion for fixation. Before knitting, reserve at least ten or twelve meters of yarn. Use circular needles to cast on, with the method being the same as casting on stitch by stitch with two needles. Take a piece of yarn from the middle, use both hands to cast on, and gradually knit to the required size. During the knitting process, keep the stitches even to avoid uneven tightness that causes the cushion to deform. Also, pay attention to the reserved length of the yarn to ensure that the sewing and fixing steps are completed smoothly.

All the above methods require adjusting the details according to the actual materials. Pay attention to safety during operation, especially when using a sewing machine and an iron to avoid burns or scratches.
