Feng Shui for Home Office Chairs
Admin October 10, 2026
There are many considerations regarding feng shui for home office chairs. Proper placement can help enhance career luck, safeguard health, and maintain family harmony.

- Placement against a wall: It is best to place the office chair against a wall. The wall is regarded as a 'supporting mountain' that can aid in career development and symbolize smooth work progress. The ideal situation is to have a solid wall behind the chair. If there are windows, doors, or corridors behind it, it implies a lack of support, which may affect one's sense of security and the harmony and balance of the home. If it is truly impossible to place it against a wall, a low cabinet or screen can be used to create an 'artificial supporting mountain'.
- Avoid beams overhead: There should be no beams above the office chair; otherwise, it will form a 'beam pressing down'็ (a negative feng shui influence), causing psychological pressure. In the long run, it may lead to problems such as headaches and nervous tension, affecting both health and work efficiency. If it cannot be avoided, lucky bamboo can be placed on the side tables on either side of the chair to counteract it.
- Avoid placing with the back to the door: Placing the chair with its back to the door creates an image of 'bad luck'. Sitting in such a position, one has no support behind and is directly facing the flow of air, which can easily lead to a lack of security. In one's career, it is difficult to receive support from others, and one may even encounter obstacles from villains.
- Avoid facing a mirror: Mirrors have a reflective effect. If the chair faces a mirror directly, the images reflected in the mirror can easily create an illusory atmosphere, interfering with one's thinking and judgment, making it difficult to concentrate and prone to making wrong decisions, which in turn can lead to disputes and affect interpersonal relationships. It is also not advisable to have a large mirror behind the chair, as others can see the back of the sitter's head through the mirror, which is considered unlucky.
- Avoid facing sharp corners: Sharp corners are sources of negative energy. If the chair faces sharp corners directly, the negative energy generated by the sharp corners' impact will directly affect one's emotions, making one irritable and easily angered. In the long run, it may lead to tense relationships among family members.
- Avoid placing at the end of a corridor: Corridors are channels for the flow of air. Placing a chair at the end of a corridor creates an image of a 'dead end', obstructing the smooth flow of air, leading to blocked financial luck and stagnant career development.
- Avoid water sources: There should be no water sources behind the chair, such as fish tanks, as this can affect the sitter's luck and also pose safety hazards.
- Be cautious about placement in the living room: From the perspectives of feng shui, spatial layout, and functional zoning, placing an office chair in the living room is not ideal. The living room is the main activity area of the family. Placing an office chair there may disrupt the overall coordination, interfere with family members' rest and entertainment, and is also not conducive to improving work efficiency.
