Home-Modified Office Chair

Admin October 09, 2026

There are mainly three plans for home-modified office chairs: modifying the front passenger seat, modifying the GL8 seat, and transforming old chairs, as detailed below:

Modifying the Front Passenger Seat into an Office Chair

First, a steel plate with 16 pre-drilled holes needs to be customized, with 10 holes for securing the seat and 6 for the armrests (if armrests are not required, only 10 holes are needed). Next, connect the steel plate to the seat using six screws, and then use four more screws to shape the entire structure into a normal office chair. After installation, tighten with nuts and attach casters to allow the chair to move flexibly. For power supply, batteries and adapters can be used. However, modifying the chair to include heating and massage functions is more complex, requiring additional circuit design and component installation.

Modifying the GL8 Seat into an Office Chair

  • Plan A: Replace the middle-row seat with a more functional aviation seat. This seat offers multiple functions such as forward and backward movement, rotation, electric massage, ventilation, and heating, providing a first-class experience with its wide backrest and cushion. However, this modification plan is costly and requires sufficient space to install the aviation seat.
  • Plan B: Acquire a middle-row seat from a GL8 (note the distinction between the 652t and 653t models), prepare an adapter plate (which can be purchased ready-made or made by drilling holes in a steel plate) and a swivel chair base with casters. Fix the adapter plate between the seat and the swivel chair base, and connect the wiring (if the seat has USB charging capabilities). The total cost can be controlled at around 210 yuan (e.g., 150 yuan for the seat + 40 yuan for the adapter plate and drilling + 20 yuan for screws and nuts + 0 yuan for an idle swivel chair base). The seat comes with a USB charging port, powered by 12V, allowing for a charging power of about 16W for mobile phones, significantly relieving pressure on the lumbar and cervical spine. However, the overall seat height may be higher after modification, affecting posture.

Transforming Old Chairs

If an old chair has a sunken seat, you can first fill theๅ‡น้™ท (sunken) part with latex to restore its flatness. Then, decorate and transform it according to your personal preferences, such as creating a bunny-ear computer chair, which is both practical and fun.
