Assembly and Disassembly of High-Back Office Chair

Admin October 22, 2026

The assembly and disassembly of a high-back office chair should be carried out according to standardized procedures, as detailed below:

I. Disassembly Steps

  1. Removing Chair Wheels
Hold the chair base steady with one hand and grasp the chair wheel with the other. Pull straight out perpendicular to the slot. If the wheel is too tight, rotate it slightly before pulling to avoid damaging the slot.

  2. Separating the Gas Cylinder from the Base

    • Snap-ring mechanism: Use snap-ring pliers to grip both ends of the snap ring, remove it outward, and then extract the gas cylinder.
    • Nut fastening: Use an appropriate wrench (such as an adjustable wrench) to unscrew the nut, and then separate the gas cylinder from the base.
  3. Separating the Seat from the Backrest
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws connecting the seat, backrest, and gas cylinder. If the seat and backrest are integrated, first disassemble the backrest (e.g., loosen the fixing screws on the back) before separating the seat.

  4. Removing Armrests
Use a wrench or screwdriver to unscrew the screws at the connection points between the armrest frames and the seat. Some armrests may also require the removal of fixed clips.

  5. Removing Chair Legs

    • Threaded connection: Use a wrench to unscrew the connecting nuts between the chair legs and the seat.
    • Snap-fit connection: Lift the chair legs and press the side clips. After hearing a 'click' sound, separate them.
  6. Removing the Headrest (if applicable)
Pull the headrest to its highest position, press down firmly on the thin metal strip in the middle, loosen it, and then pull it out. If the clip is too tight, insert a hard card (such as a bank card) into the gap to assist in separation.

  7. Separating the Five-Star Base from the Gas Spring
Gently tap the five feet of the five-star base with a rubber mallet to loosen them from the gas spring, and then tap the base plate to complete the separation. Avoid using a metal hammer to prevent surface damage.

II. Assembly Steps (Taking TOAI E1 as an Example)

  1. Assembling the Basic Structure
Press the wheels into the slots of the chair base to ensure they are fully engaged; insert the gas rod into the center hole of the chair base and keep it vertical.

  2. Connecting the Backrest to the Seat Cushion
Use three M8 screws to fix the connection between the backrest and the seat cushion. Ensure that the screws are tightened evenly to avoid tilting.

  3. Installing Armrests
Align the armrests with the holes on both sides of the seat and fix them with screws. Some models may also require the installation of plastic clips to enhance stability.

  4. Inserting the Footrest (if applicable)
Align the footrest with the front slot of the seat and gently push it in until it is fully engaged.

  5. Fitting the Base onto the Gas Rod
Align the base with the top of the gas rod and slowly press down until it is fully fitted. Check for stability.

  6. Installing the Headrest
Insert the headrest into the top hole of the backrest. A 'click' sound indicates that it is properly installed.

III. Precautions

  • Protecting Surfaces: Place a soft cloth between the tools and the chair during disassembly to avoid scratches.
  • Safe Operation: The gas rod contains high-pressure gas. Do not strike or puncture it; wear gloves during disassembly to prevent cuts.
  • Specialized Tools: For office chairs from brands like Bekr, use the hex screwdriver provided in the box to avoid slippage due to mismatched tools.
